Q: why does aripiprazole keep me awake at night?
when other antipsychotics make me tired.
I am not complaining, just curious and I will understand complex answer if made simple!!
A: I think some antipsychotics are also stimulents..meaning they will get your brain working…I might be wrong…but from experience..this seems true to me.
If you are having problems with restlessness and feeling lost or confused you should talk to your doc about maybe be put on cogentin..it will help with those side effects and possibly help you sleep.
Good Luck
Q: ABILIFY (aripiprazole)Please help me, I need your help For one moment ?
What processes are involved in stop taking ABILIFY (aripiprazole).
I know stop one is speak to the doctor
So what’s next?
A: Maybe the person taking it is psychotic and needs it, but there is so much marketing corruption in the psych industry today, I have grave doubts that a person chosen at random on abilify actually needs it.
The stuff falls into the class of drugs called atypical antipsychotic drugs, they started coming out about 15 years ago. But, it was a lie from the get go. They claimed to be more effective with less side effects than the typical antipsycotics, 10 years later it was found that this was not the case. They put the blame on the small scale/short term studies. Small scale/short term lies for profit more accurate description.
The stuff promotes diabetes, for most psychotics they and society would be better off without the meds, and the high prices of the product being better vented towards visiting nurses/housekeepers to keep an eye on them for a help. Or better yet set them working on their own organic farm.
Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
Q: I have been taking Abilify (generic name aripiprazole) for bi-polar disorder for about 5 weeks now and for?
the last 3 weeks i have been so sleepy that i can’t even function…like i sleep about 20 hours a day now since it is christmas break from school…sleepiness is a side effect but how do i know if what i am going though is related to the med? When do side effects go away the med really helps me but i can’t keep on sleeping my life away….please help!!!!
A: Don’t stop taking it. It may NOT be the right med for you, but you have to work with your doc about changing dosage or to diff meds. Get an appointment with your doc to talk about this. Do you see any change in sleepiness? Often symptoms one experiences over first two weeks will ease off or change after couple of weeks. But it sounds like something needs to be adjusted for you to function best. It can take time to get it right, but when you do, it allows you to more fully be yourself–on a more even keel.
Q: what are the side effects of Aripiprazole (Abilify) ?
A: Some of the most common side effects associated with aripiprazole are anxiety, blurred vision, constipation, cough, headache, insomnia, light-headedness, nausea, rash, restlessness, runny nose, sleepiness, tremors, vomiting, weakness, and weight gain. As with other anti-psychotics, long-term use of aripiprazole may lead to a potentially irreversible condition called tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements of the jaw, lips, and tongue). A potentially fatal complex referred to as neuroleptic malignant syndrome has been reported with anti-psychotic drugs, including aripiprazole. Patients who develop this syndrome may have high fevers, muscle rigidity, altered mental status, irregular pulse or blood pressure, rapid heart rate, excessive sweating, and heart arrhythmias.
Although there is no clear link between aripiprazole and diabetes, patients should be tested during treatment for elevated blood-sugars. Additionally, persons with risk factors for diabetes, including obesity or a family history of diabetes, should have their fasting levels of blood sugar tested before starting treatment and periodically throughout treatment to detect the onset of diabetes. Any patient developing symptoms that suggest diabetes during treatment should be tested for diabetes
Q: Does taking aripiprazole 5 mg instead of 7.5 mg make any difference?
Does taking aripiprazole 5 mg instead of 7.5 mg make any difference ?
A: I have lowered my dose of it before by small increments like that and didn’t feel much difference. Lowering your dose by big increments makes big differences and should be avoided. You should always ask the doc when in doubt.
I have taken as high a dose as 40 mg and didn’t encounter toxicity. Not sure what the other responders are talking about implying it is toxic.
Q: anyone get a stimulant effect from aripiprazole?
A: you will when you first start taking it, while your body adjusts, though it is the best one, the newest, and the best.
and no, they don’t pay me to say that.
oh, and sex will seem so much better too. but you will learn that on your own.
if after 3 months you start to feel really sleepy, just know that it is doing its job, and that job is to keep you out of the confines of a hospital.
don’t ever miss a dose.
oh, and i hope it has made you feel alot better
Q: Mixing Abilify (aripiprazole) with Magic Mushrooms?
Hello,
I’ve been diagnosed with bipolar I disorder and I have been taking abilify for about a month. I wanted to take mushrooms in about a week, and I was wondering if it would be safe to mix the two. If someone could please get back to me, I’d really appreciate it!
A: Probably not a good idea.
Q: Is ABILIFY (aripiprazole) an anti-depressant?
I am currently taking Lexapro, and was given Abilify.
My therapist said it was to help with the thoughts in my head, which I could be considered as paranoid.
A: Abilify is considered an atypical antipsychotic. It is typically used in combination with other drugs (such as antidepressants). You can go to webmd.com and look up any drugs to see their type, intended uses, side effects, etc. You can also read other people’s reviews on the medication, so you can see what sort of things you might want to expect (although, every case is different!!)
I hope it works out for you, it can sometimes be tricky to find the right medication and dose. Glad you are getting help.
I am NOT a doctor.
Q: Aripiprazole question?
I was on olanzapine then came of them and my doctor gave me aripiprazole, and said they don’t cause weight gain, I took them for one day but they made me feel week and sick, so I went back on the olanzapine without him knowing, the olanzapine makes me bloated and I gain too much weight so today iv gone back on the aripiprazole and feel sick in my tummy.
will this feeling leave me and is it safe to switch from olanzapine to aripriprazole.
A: Stick with the Aripiprazole change over. The side effects will settle down and as it does not cause the weight gain Olanzapine does, is much healthier for you. With weight gain comes diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure all risk factors for heart disease.
Q: How should I open up and tell my psychologist?
How should I open up and tell my psychologist that ABILIFY (aripiprazole) is not for me and that I need to stop, because the side effects are just to much and I just don’t wanted any more.
A: You should just go in to your next appointment and express that you are having terrible side effects and you were wondering if there was something else that you could try. Let him/her know that the side effects are causing you more problems than they are solving. Your psychologist should not intimidate you, and if he/she does, you may want to consider someone you are more comfortable with. Also, your psychologist should listen too and understand your concerns. Many times, these medications need to be gradually decreased to get a patient off of them, so it is possible you may need to do this before trying something else. I wish you the best of luck.
Q: Aripiprazole(abilify) has an antipyschotic effect? Wtf?
Most antipyschotics antagonize D2 receptors, but ariprazole is a D2 partial agonist. What’s a partial agonist? I would expect an agonist to have the opposite effect of an antagonist of the same receptor. It also fucks with histamine, serotonin, and adrenergic receptors, but I don’t find this particularly interesting or atypical.
A: A partial agonist can be thought of as “sort of” antagonizing the receptor. It binds the receptor, and has some dopaminergic activity, but much less than the endogenous hormone, in this case dopamine. So it’s sitting there at the receptor and preventing dopamine from exerting its full effect.
Q: is aripiprazole helping with schizophrenia?
I am taking olanzapine for over 3 years yes it helps a bit but it makes me too drowsy and I want to try a different antipsicotics
A: it’s approved for your indication but you have to work with your doctor if you want a change.
Q: Is this muscle cramps caused by my meds?
I’ve been having cramp in different parts of my body mainly fingers. This can last anything from mins to hours. I am currently on 30mg of mirtazapine and 5mg of aripiprazole. Currently I have cramp in my hip and it’s been there for over 24 hours! Could it be my meds causing this?
A: I didn’t see that for the side effect of the mirtazapine, but with the aripiprazole, it says it can cause stiff muscles. Are you drinking plenty of water?
You should really call your doctor to discuss with him/her about your muscle cramp. I pray it goes away and you have no more pain.
Q: Aripiprazole – D2 antagonist AND D2 agonist???
/i read somewhere that Aripiprazole was both antagonist and agonist of D2, depending on the body’s dopamine levels? This doesnt make sence cos too much dopamine supports the dopamine theory of psychosis, but too little?
if any1 could clarrify the above I’ll be grateful
A: Excellent!!! Finally a question that is deep and requires thought.
I have AD/HD (subtype: limbic system hyperactivity, with obsessive symptoms.) In my case the obsessive symptoms present as mild anxiety and OCPD. Severe chronic depression accompanies this type of AD/HD and I have suffered from this to a great degree my entire life. I have learned that most psychiatrists offer a partial solution at best. Essentially, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. Unfortunately, this viewpoint is also a diagnostic criteria of OCPD:)
This question was harder than I thought. I think that I might have the correct answer, but I don’t have time to write it. Email me so that I have a way to contact you and I will send you what I have.

Q: Aripiprazole (Abilify)?
Has anybody here taken the anti-psychotic (neuroleptic) Aripiprazole (Abilify)?
What are the side-effects you’ve had to deal with? How long have you been taking it? Do you feel it has been effective for you?
Thanks.
In response to the first answer, how long did you take Abilify? Are you still taking it?
A: i have been on abilify for almost 2 years. the side effects i had lasted maybe a total of 2 months. the side effects where, trouble sleeping (so i took it in the mornings), jittery feeling, and headaches. now i must say i still get headaches, but i am on so many other meds it could be from the combination of all of them together. the side effects should go away after a few weeks. i feel that abilify has worked extremely well for me. i can tell a big difference with my thought pattern and the way i perceive things.
i wish you all the best with abilify. please note that everyone reacts differently to medications. so your side effects may be different from the ones i have experienced. if they become bothersome talk to your health care provider.
take care ~ hugs ~
