Q: Nexium??????
I was given Nexium by my doctor for my acid reflux plus unexplained stomach pain. If I try not to take it my pains and acid reflux comes back. My question is…can I continue to take this medicine forever with no repercussions?
A: yes and it will eventually heal your esophagus and possibly even stomach ulcers
Q: What is the difference between Prilosec and Nexium?
I wanted to know what was the difference between Prilosec and Nexium. All I know they are both purple. Is one better than the other.
Thank You.
A: I believe it’s cost. Nexium is more expensive I think.
Q: Can nexium create a false positive for Pancreatic cancer?
A relative was recently told based on blood tests that she may have pancreatic cancer. She has consistently taken nexium and other drugs for acid reflux, migraines, and arthritis. Can these drugs or any for that matter cause a blood test to come back positive for pancreatic cancer?
A: Blood tests for presence of cancer are screening tests and are not 100% diagnostic of the presence of cancer. Biopsises and other tests need to be done to ensure a positive diagnosis.
That said, blood tests look for specific proteins made by specific kinds of cancer cells. Medications are unlikely to give a false positive on this type of test. That does not mean that the blood test is 100% reliable however. It does mean that more diagnostic tests are needed.
Q: What’s the difference between Nexium and Prilosec?
Prilosec seems to work better for me. Nexium causes me to wake up with a congested nose and plugged ears! Why is that? I thought they’d be about the same.
A: They are both proton pump inhibitors, but they are not exactly the same. Pick the one that works best for you! I take Prevacid.
Q: How long should you be taking Nexium for acid reflux?
I have been diagnosed with acid reflux and have been taking 1 Nexium tablet daily for about a year and a half. Although it is used for heartburn I have never had heartburn at any time. I wonder if there is a time limit on long you should be on it.
A: It’s a bad idea to stop any medication without checking with your doctor first. Have you thought that the Nexium is the reason you don’t have heartburn?
BTW, people are on it for years w/o difficulty.
Q: Any ideas for a healthy substitute for Nexium to treat acid reflux?
I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux a few years ago and put on Nexium. At times it does not seem to be doing what I should, and the BIGGEST problem I have is that there is a tremendous amount of gas. Any ideas on a good (healthy) substitute?
A: The best thing to do is change your diet – it may not help all the way, but it will help a lot. If you eat foods that are alkaline instead of acidic it will help a huge amount.
Cut out greasy foods, soda, coffee, and tomatoe sauces entirely.
If you drink water with lemon (real lemon – not alternatives) it will help to balance out the PH in your stomach. Also tons of fruits and vegis (fresh) and fruit and vegi juices (from a juicer) will make a HUGE difference with your stomach.
Basically you just need to get the acid production down.
Look up “the PH balance diet” – he has lists of acidic and alkaline foods – some will surprise you. If you eat 80% alkaline and 20% or less acidic, you will feel tons better. It’s hard to do and a major diet change, but you can do it if you try.
PS, in response to the other answers: ginger does help a lot of people with stomach problems. The over the counter ones will not help you if Nexium isn’t doing the job – they don’t do anything for me at all.
Q: Can I drink Alcohol while taking my two weeks of Nexium?
My doctor is trying me out on this stuff called Nexium to control stomach acid. And Canada day is coming up so im planning on drinking then , will i be able to? I cant find anything in the pamphlet the pills came with.
A: Well there is no sideffects per say. But if you want your heartburn under control then the answer to your question is to avoid alcohol.
I got my information form webmd. great site to get alot of questions answered. does not take the place of a health care professional.
Stop Heartburn and Acid Reflux
Fortunately, you have several options for heartburn relief:
Try eating smaller meals, and don’t eat two to three hours before bedtime.
Avoid foods that may trigger heartburn, such as fried food, citrus, tomato, spices, peppermint, chocolate, and carbonated drinks.
@Cut back on alcohol and caffeine. @
Stop smoking if you smoke.
Lose weight if your doctor says you’re overweight.
Cut back on aspirin and pain relievers if you take them often.
Q: I take Nexium every day. Can I take an over the counter antacid for heartburn?
Apparently the Nexium isn’t working too well today. I haven’t eaten anything really spicy or greasy, but I suddenly got awful heartburn. Would it hurt me to take some Maalox or Tums?
A: Chew mint gum, or pop in a MINT altoid. Mint is a natural antacid- As is plain yogurt. Lastly, another really good remedy for tummy issues: Black Liccorice
Q: What is different between the Protonix and Nexium?
Protonix and Nexium are medicine for delaying acid.
A: They both reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Generally used for ulcers, reflux, espohigits, etc.
Q: What are Nexium known harms to a nursing infant?
I have been taking Nexium due to sever heartburn while breastfeeding and now after 4 months I have found out that it is harmful to a nursing infant. I stopped the medication right away, but I am freaking out and need to know what is going to happen to my baby. What are the possible side effects that I need to look for and be aware of. This is driving me insane with worry!
Although the pediatrician told me it is ok to take Nexium. I am finding that the general recommendation is not to take it while breastfeeding…I am confused as to why this doctor said it is ok when it may not be!!
A: why are you waiting here for an answer, take the child to a pediatrician and ask your questions, you are far more likely to get accurate answers.
Q: Should I still take the 40 MG Nexium before a gi endoscopy in 2 weeks?
In 2 weeks, I am going to have an endoscopy since I have gerd. They are going to check for inflammations and other structures in the gastro system. I have been on Nexium for around 2 months now, but I still continue to have reflux symptoms (heartburn & regurgitation). If I keep taking Nexium for the 2 weeks the procedure, would it affect the accuracy of the test?
A: Call the office of the doctor who ordered the test and ask the staff this question. It is too important to trust to the answers from lay strangers on the Internet.
Q: Is there anything i can buy over the counter thats the same as nexium?
Ha, well i did it this time. I dropped all of my girlfriends nexium in the toilet. Woops. So anyways, she can’t get a new refill cause she just got one. So i was wondering if there is something i can buy at like wallgreens or cvs or something that would work the same? Just to get her by for a little while.
A: try prilosec OTC
Q: Do any of you have experience purchasing Nexium from an online Pharmacy from Canada or Mexico?
My health insurance won’t cover Nexium. Does anyone have experience with an online pharmacy in Canada or Mexico or another foreign Pharmacy website? I am fearful of getting dangerous or bogus Nexium. Please advise me of your experience.
A: Drugs that stop the acid production in your stomach will only cause you more problems down the line. Your colon will slow because you are not absorbing any nurtition from your food and therefore you will eat more and gain weight. Your probably thinking Im nuts because your stomach hurts sobad you can hardly stand it but you should research braggs vinegar and take some anytime you have heartburn. I know you are thinking vinegar is acid so it wouldnt work but you will know with just one dose of taking it so why not save yourself a life time of pill taking and just try it. Its like 2.99$ . The only vinegar that will work is the kind with mother in it so dont just use red vinegar or white… its not all the same. Just look it up and see for yourself.
Q: Is it a big problem if my cat ingested nexium?
I found a nexium pill broken on the floor and can only assume my cat ingested a portion of the medicine. Anybody know if that is really bad for them?
A: Call the emergency vet and ask them. Make sure to keep an eye on kitty and see if she’s exhibiting any unusual behavior – lethargy, foaming at the mouth, etc. Anything like that and you haul her to the vet no matter what they said.
Easymac79: foaming at the mouth is a common symptom when cats (or other animals) ingest poisonous materials. Look it up.
Q: Do some people use prescription strength Prevacid ot Prilosec, or Nexium for years or just temporarily?
I am 33. I have GERD. For the last three years I have had to take prescription strength Nexium. My doctor told me to get an endoscpoy but I just can’t fathom the thought of someone sticking a tube down my throat. It sounds grotesque. I can’t believe that’s the only way they can test for stomach problems. Anyways, it is alright that I take Nexium permanently? Do any other patients do this?
A: When you have an endoscopy, you are out…..they give you Verced, which knocks you out (partially, as you are rousable).
Go for the endoscopy to find out of esophageal rings are affected, if erosion of esophagus has occurred, or if there is a visual reason for the reflux. You won’t even be aware nor remember the procedure and something may be found……..good or not so good!
