Q: what are symptoms of acid reflux disease?
i’ve been having chest pains and heartburn for a month, first the doctor said it was bacteria in my stomach then the test came through and it wasn’t so my mom thought it was something with my gall bladder but we didn’t see any gall stones. so i’m wondering if i should ask if it could be a.r.d. but i want to know the symptoms first.
A: If you have chest pains and heart burn it sounds alot like acid reflux as these are classic symptoms, a member of my family suffered with it a while back.
The symptoms include -
* Burping
* Nausea and vomiting
* Change in voice or hoarse voice
* Sore throat
* Coughing or wheezing
* Asthma
* Chest Pain
* Upper abdominal pain

Q: What are some signs/symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease?
I have awful heartburn at random times during the day, prominent when I run or exercise. painful stinging in back of throat.
A: Usually for acid reflux your body makes alot of acid, and you may feel kinda sick in the morning from this buildup. If you feel stinging in the back of your throat it could be from the acid coming from your stomach, it happens when the muscle in your esophagus does not close all the way thus letting acid come up, especially if you are laying down which can become serious since it can burn your lining of your throat inside. It would be a good idea to see a doctor because if it is acid reflux he can give you some medications. Good luck
Q: Are these symptoms of Acid Reflux? And what can I do about it?
Every time I wake up in the morning I have this rancid taste/smell in my mouth.. I can barely eat any non-bland foods due to the heart burn factor. I cant stand this anymore all help is appreciated… Oh and during the day I burp up stomach acid…
A: Acid reflux is caused when your stomachs digestive acids make their way up into the esophagus. If you suffer from acid reflux on a regular basis, there is a chance that it may be the result of another more serious condition called gastroesophogeal reflux disease. See your doctor, and in the meantime take Myalanta effervescent tablets dissolved in water.
Q: What are the symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease (GERD)????
A: I’ve had it for several years. Symptoms vary with the individual. Mine mimicked those of a heart attack at first. Chest pain, pain in right arm, sudden, profuse sweating, light-headedness. I drove myself to the hospital, was kept overnight for observation, passed a stress test with no problems, nothing else was found. That’s when acid reflux was diagnosed. Sometimes it’s mere heartburn, but there are times, especially in the morning, when I suddenly feel lousy, tightness in my chest, I begin to sweat, but I don’t panic anymore because I know that in a few minutes, I’ll burp a couple of times and get rid of the gas that causes the symptoms, and then I feel just fine.
Zantac works pretty well but I take it only when I get the symptoms in the evening, before bed.
Q: What are symptoms of acid reflux??
I know I had just asked a question about my son having acid reflux, but what are most of the symptoms?? If your child had it, how did you know?? What signs were there?? And about what age did you realize it?? Thanks Again!!!
My son only screams while being burped or after. If it was reflux would it be other times also??
My son is 4 months old

Q: How long does it take for acid reflux to go away?
I started suffering from the symptoms of acid reflux the week after Thanksgiving. On December 21, I went to a doctor and he gave me Prevacid. I’ve been taking that since then. I started feeling much better about a week after I started taking the medication, but my symptoms are not all the way gone. Sometimes I still feel like I have a lump at the back of my throat and I have to burp a lot. Occasionally I’m slightly nauseous. How long does it typically take to recover from acid reflux, or do you recover at all? And when I run out of medication, should I be fine by then or will I need more? I have enough for about a month and a half. I do plan on going back for a check up at the end of this month as well, as my doctor asked me to.
A: I hope your doctor suggested diet changes as well as medication. Avoid anything spicy, deep fried, caffeine, chocolate, peppermint, orange juice, pineapple juice, and tomato sauces. Also try eating smaller meals so you don’t distend or stretch your stomach out too much at one time. Don’t lay down right after eating and try sleeping with your upper body slightly elevated. If you smoke, quit and avoid alcohol.
In regard to the Prevacid some people take it for many years. You can be on the medication for long term therapy. Generally four to six weeks are needed to have the full effect of the medication. At your follow up if your symptoms are not completely resolved ask about increasing the dosing or frequency of the Prevacid and possibly a referral to a GI or gastroenterologist.
Q: Symptoms of Acid Reflux?
I’ve been having trouble sleeping. When I lie on my back, I get strange pain in my upper chest and neck area. It feels sort of like a pressure or tightness coming from inside that makes it hard to breathe. Sometimes it’s relieved by taking pepto bismal. Could this be acid reflux, and if so, what will happen if I don’t get it treated?
A: My symptoms included trouble swallowing and a tightness in my chest. This does sound like GERD, or acid reflux. See a doctor because there are many good medications available, like nexium or protonix. You need to get this checked out because it can lead to permanent damage to your esophagus.
Q: symptoms of acid reflux?
i think my baby has acid reflux. could someone whos baby suffers from this please tell me there symptoms.
i have searched it on google, but i would rather hear from other parents whos baby suffers.
thankyou
A: My 1 year old has had reflux since birth and he would constantly choke and throw up with each feed, it scared the life outta me; i knew something was wrong so he had a swallow barium test done and the reflux was confirmed. My son would arch his back sometimes or just scream and wale as he got older he caught little temper fits, i could tell he was frustrated by the burning and just had it and would wig out for a bit to release his frustration. Reflux is awful and you need to become cpr and Heimlich maneuver certified just in case, well every parent or person in general should be. I could go on and on about reflux but you should research it.
Q: What are the symptoms of acid reflux? What foods should I avoid? Or….what foods can I eat might be easier!
A: Symptoms–heartburn, regurgitation of acid, peptic ulcer-like pain, difficulty swallowing. All symptoms do not need to be present to have a diagnosis of acid reflux disease.
The symptoms may, (or may not) be relieved when food is eaten. You should stay in an upright position for at least one hour after eating which may help decrease the symptoms.
You should avoid greasy, fried foods. Other types of foods to avoid include spicy food & foods with tomato content–spaghetti, lasagna, pizza, goulash, etc. Try to stay away from pepper. Stay away from fruits with high acid content–lemons (lemonade), oranges (orange juice), etc. Stay away from soda & caffeine products. They increase acid production-as well as do cigarettes or other tobacco products.
A bland diet is recommended–milk, cream, prepared cereals, gelatin, soup, rice, butter, crackers, eggs, lean meats, fish, cottage cheese, custards, tapioca, cookies & plain cake. Multivitamins may be needed to counteract the vitamins lost through a strict bland diet.
Treatment is toward decreasing the acid in the gut produced from certain foods. The diet will help. A Dr would probably recommend meds geared toward reducing the acid. OTC meds are available such as Pepcid AC-Tagamet-and numerous others. Newer GI meds (by prescription only) includes an antibiotic with the acid reducer.
Hope this info gives you some insight.
Q: Symptoms of acid reflux? Need help/suggestions?
I believe I may have acid reflux, but I don’t know. The doctor was checking for heart problems, but did not find any there, and I don’t think she’s a good doctor so I’m trying to find a new one (but until then) I would like to know others who have experienced any forms of acid reflux. What did it feel like, symptons, what did you go through? Chest pains? Trouble breathing? Anything you can tell me that was in your diagnosis.
Cutesy/smart alec remarks won’t be read and probably just forwarded onto Yahoo so don’t bother, I need assurances and suggestions to help the diet and see if I may have similar problems as you- and yes I will be seeing a doctor ASAP.
A: You have my same issue! u need to see a GI specialist and they will give you a colonoscopy and an endoscopy! Which is actaully a simple procedure I have had 3 endoscopies and a bravo surgery in my esophagus and Im only 23! Ive had acid refluxz amongst many other digestive issues for years now! Sometimes acid can get into your lungs and that can cause an issue with breathing… It also can cause chest pain and discomfort as well! They will probably put you on a proton pump inhibitor if you do have at such as aciphex, protonix, nexium, etc! I had issues with nexium but protonix is nice… I have acid reflux so bad that I have to take 2 a day! Avoid…. Caffine, Alcohol, Cigs, Weed, Spices, Chocolate, Fried Food, etc! I could give you the whole lowdown on what you need to do but Ill leave that for your doctor! Unfortunatley the only way to diagnose it is through an endoscopy… They wqill sedate you (which is quite nice) and stick a long camera tube down your throat… Into your esophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestines too look for erosions, etc! Acid Reflux is very common! Ok as for my diagnosis I found out that I have acid reflux, I once was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, I was also diagnosed with Colonic Inertia, and Gastritis… I have been where you are you will get through this it is manageable… If you have any further questions feel free to ask!
Q: Symptoms of acid reflux & hiatal hernia?
What are the symptoms, other than heartburn?
I have been diagnosed with both, and just want to see what symptoms other people have experienced.
I feel nauseous often (idk if it’s because of the acid reflux and hiatal hernia though), feel like there’s liquid trapped in the top of my abdomen, and feel like I have to burp but can’t. I also feel alot of pressure in my throat at times and find it difficult to swallow, and I feel like something triggers my gag reflex. Does any of that sound familiar?
(I’m trying to see if the symptoms I get ARE caused my acid reflux or my hiatal hernia, because I got my gallbladder taken out 2 weeks ago and that was supposed to take care of my nausea)
Thank you.
A: I have bad acid reflux (i have already had an upper GI (a few months ago) and i had an endoscopy on friday (and don’t have the results back). I feel nauseous very often, i can feel food and stuff come back up as if I’m going to puke but i never do, i get bloated very easily and very often, i have a lot of pressure in my lower and upper stomach, when i swallow food and drink i feel as if i take a big gulp of air with it. My symptoms always get worse with school (because of stress and scheduled eating and not eating) and sometimes when i exercise my chest and throat burn badly and i feel sick. I’m on nexium as of now but that may change when i get my endoscopy results.
Q: What are the symptoms of acid reflux in babies?
Is spitting up always symptom? I had heard that acid reflux babies have projectile vomitting and spitting up.
My 3 mth old son is very fussy much of the day and will spit up, but no more than your average baby does. I’ve always just been assuming its colic, but I’ve tried all the popular colic remedies and nothing seems to help. So I’ve just been wondering if he could be having some reflux.
He was also born 6 weeks early…
A: Spitting up is not always reflux, and reflux does not always produce (visible) spit up. Projectile vomiting is not reflux. A baby born premature is more prone to have episodes of reflux. Symptoms vary but can include screaming when laying down, spitting up, irritability when eating, refusing to eat (usually in older children), arching of the back with crying, frequent hiccups, and “wet” burps.
My boys were also six weeks early and suffer from reflux. They each started out taking 3 different medications and sleeping on an incline. At 7 months of age we are finally down to just Prevacid and that seems to have helped the most. Call your doctor and see what he/she thinks- the sooner you get your baby in, the more comfortable you can both be.
Good luck
Q: I think I might have acid reflux but how can I tell for sure? Symptoms?
As the title says I think i might have acid reflux for the past year + or so my throat has been burning (sometimes uncontrollably) at various times during the day (mostly at night). Is this a symptom of acid reflux? If so how should I go on treating it. When my throat has been burning I just try to drink some water but that is only limited relief, is it a good idea that i even drink water during the pain?
Its doesn’t feel so much that I am puking up acid it just seems to come up no gag or anything if that is what you mean. But yes it burns like vomit but it just sits there.
A: You should see your doctor to determine whether or not you have GERD (acid reflux). What you describe sounds serious and uncomfortable, so you should do so as soon as possible. I’m not a doctor, but the acid reflux article on Wikipedia recommened avoiding eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, especially acidic foods (such as citrus fruits), chocolate, milk, and others. There are also some suggestions about changing the position you sleep in (elevating the head of the bed, etc.)… for more, you might want to try looking at the article yourself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_reflux
But really, to get the most benefit you should probably consult your physician.
Q: relief of sever acid reflux symptoms?
A: There are several good medications on the market for acid reflux. Prilosec is probably the best over-the-counter medication. Prevacid is still prescription-only, but it is probably even better. In addition to medication, you might also try raising the head of your bed at night, or using a “wedge” pillow to raise your head; also, refrain from eating after about 6 p.m.
Q: what would be symptoms of acid reflux in a 1 yr old?
A: my cousin was going through this with her little boy, at the time I already had 2 boys of my own, so she would call for advice, and I could hear the baby screaming in pain, just crying and crying, I got her to take the baby to her pediatrician after she had finally gotten exhausted enough to go, and she was told the baby had acid reflux, when she described the baby’s symptoms to me every other day it was the same thing, fussiness, crying non-stop, vomiting–not spitting up after every meal, I told her I felt it was acid-reflux, I’m glad she took the baby to the doc., beforehand she thought it was to much iron in his milk so she switched to this and then tried that…….it is a very serious issue, her baby was malnourished because by now everything the baby was trying to take in came right out, and he had some damage to his esophagus by the time she took the baby to the doc, I am not trying to scare you but I would rather be on the safe side and have the baby checked out
