Q: Gerd ????????/?
I was diagnosed with Gerd (Gastric Esophigal Reflux Desiese) i have chest pains and have ben to the doctor numorous times because of this worried that it could be cardiac related but they keep telling me that is it related to my gerd the wierd thing is that it is mostly left sided does anybody have this same symptom
A: I raise my hand. Yes, I have it and so does my Mom.
Drink lots of water when it happens to flush the extra acid back down. I don’t know if it helps, but I lean to favor that side so the water flows over the problem area. I recommend drinking a glass of water before eating. Chew your food well and take very small bites. Drink often while eating.
There are medicines that can help you control it. Nexium claims to help heal the affected area. Prilosec may help you control it. There are others. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your choices. Some of the other medications were not right for me. Some have after affects when you forget or stop using them.
Stress like worrying about the heart concern makes the GERD worse. Try to relax and review the links below.
Q: gerd??????
10 years ago I had afundoplication when I was 4 for severe acid reflux and missing valve.
so about 4 months ago I had a checkup endoscopy and my gastro said that my esophogus was inflamed, covered in mucus and really scarred.
Recently my reflux has been really bad. A few weeks ago I had tomato soup, and was so nausous I could barely stand up. Food always gets stuck in my chest so I have to drink lots of water whenever I eat. ( I go through about 4 glasses just at dinner)
Then this morning when I had coffee and nothing else, I just started gagging over and over again. Only spit came up but it was yellowy (mucus?)
So yeaah Im not sure. Its getting really annoying especially the nausea, heartburn, food getting stuck.
Im on omeoprole daily and milanta when the heartburn is bad, but Im not getting any results. My gastro suggested I may need another funodplication. I’m booked in in 2 weeks, but wondering what to expect Could there be something else wrong? im only 14! HELP!!!!
A: I am going to say that it is probable but may not be. I recommend staying away from pharmaceuticals because you will need larger doses overtime to subdue the pain and symptoms. Try using alternative medications, I have taken the liberty to elaborate below.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Q: How can you tell the difference between GERD/acid reflux symptoms and a problem with the aorta?
I’ve had sharp, stabbing pains in the upper stomach area (and a multitude of other symptoms) for a few months now and they seem to be getting worse. How can I differentiate between GERD or acid reflux type symptoms, and something like aortic stenosis or an aortic dissection.
A: I’m not sure but if you find out let me know
I have had a constant full feeling in my upper stomach over the last few days and its doing my head in. I haven’t got much of an appetite but feel full, had a dodgy stomach a week ago. I went to my gp and he has given me some Merbentyl as he said it should settle things down and he thought it was just a bug that i have but i’m not convinced.
Q: how do i relieve the symptoms of gerd when i drink alcohol?
i enjoy an occasional night of partying w/friends & family but i have gerd … is there a way to decrease the extreme pain & misery i get the day after? a little relief would help.
A: Take a proton pump inhibitor like Aciphex, Protonix, Prilosec, Prevacid, Axid, etc. about 20-30 minutes before you start to drink.
Drink water in between.
Eat starchy foods with your drinks (like bread, crackers, etc.)
As you know, alcohol is not the best thing for your esophagus.
Good luck.
Q: Can Gerd cause strange symptoms during physical activity?
Okay, lately just doing the simplest of physical tasks has been making me feel slightly sick to my stomach and giving me chest pains in the center and left/center area of my chest. I’ve been on Prilosec for months now and have recently been inactive for about two months because of an injury. The pain seems to accompany an increase in burping as well. I was wondering if this sounded more like a heart or GERD problem.
Had a clean stress test about three months ago.
A: I have Gerd and I ended up with spasm of my Coronary arteries. Hospital thought it was a heart attack but it wasn’t. Get it checked out, most probably nothing to worry about, but the inflamation can cause the same symptoms of heart problems.
Good Luck.
Q: I was suffering a rusty voice from my Gerd. Is it possible to regain my natural voice again after medication?
I was suffering from Gerd since I was 14, now that I am 22 I still suffering from it.Its been two months since i started taking Nexium 20mg 2x a day 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner. I am a singer. I suffer a rusty voice from it. I was just wondering, Is it possible to reagain my natural/ normal voice again? God bless everyone….
A: Yes it is fully possible. Below is some helpful tips to aid the healing process, if you try the honey/molasses method it will aid you in bringing your voice back sooner (Just do it when you wake up in the morning also).

Q: what types of food exactly, can I eat with gerd disease?
I have had gerd for years now and will need an operation to fix. I have been unable to find recipes or the right foods to eat to, try to help with the heartburn problems I experience I get severe burning and spit blood and vomit frequently. At least three to four times a week for the past three years. I have cut a lot out of my diet but dont know exactly what I should or should not eat. I have been on several perscriptions and am now taking prevacid tablets twice daily for the past two years.
A: I have GERD but not as severe as yours. Since you did not say when the surgery is, I suggest you get the surgery asap. The lining of the esophagus can and probably is causing this stress on your eating habits. Also, since you mentioned you have been spitting blood, which may be blood mixed in with the stomach acid and shreds of your esophagus lining; also the vomiting, you need this surgery very soon. I’m an intern md and I highly suggest you get the surgery soon. If you wait any longer, worse things can/will happen. And, I am on Prevacid as well and know what you are going through. Please take my advice and I wish you well.
Q: Is there a connection between GERD and HYPOGLYCEMIA?
Is there a connection between GERD and HYPOGLYCEMIA. Because I have sympotms of both the conditions.
A: No there is NO connection.

You could be suffering from either of these conditions. But they are not related at all.
GERD being reflux.
Hypoglycemia being low blood sugars.
I suggest if you feel it is a true problem or really worries you, to go and see your Doctor.

Q: what is the cancer that is commonly misdiagnosed as GERD and is there a cure?
My sister was diagnosed with GERD recently, but now she is being told that she has to get a biopsy, because she may have been misdiagnosed and has a good chance of having cancer. Her doctor also told her that if she does have cancer that it would be a death sentence, I need to know if that is true.
A: Another possiblity is that your sister has a gastrinoma – which is a very rare type of cancer that is usually found only in people with MENS syndrome – I can’t remember what exactly the acronym means but it is a hereditary type of cancer that is usually fatal because the person gets many different types of cancer very easily. If there is a big history of cancer in your family – the doc might be talking about that.
However – not all gastrinomas are related to the syndrome – and the ones that aren’t related are curable.
Best of luck to you and your sister!
Q: Could I claim VA disability for GERD if a doctor recorded it as being probable?
I have an entry in my medical record of a visit to the doctor about issues with gas and bloating and at the end of the report the doctor wrote “probable GERD”. Could I claim this for VA compensation?
A: Nope… that means you have heartburn. WEven with a confirmed diagnosis it’s easily treatable.
Q: What is the best home remedy for GERD/Heartburn?
Hello, I am Nabin from Nepal, currently i am suffering from heartburn, and gastritis. I have heard that Apple Cider Vinegar is the best solution for heartburn. Is this true? Please tell me, what is the best solution for GERD/Heartburn.Please i will be waiting for your answer.
