Q: Acid Reflux?
What remedies are good for acid reflux diease besides the perscribed medications? Nexium Previcid Prilosec
A: I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Q: acid reflux?
what are the symptoms of acid reflux? and if you have it, what can you do to stop it?
also is it genetic, and does drinking aclohol make it worse?
A: it can be genetic but i think in most cases it is due to the eating habits that are inherited. We tend to inherit diseases because we learn to eat from the same people who learned the same habits from people who also had those diseases. Anything that is not pure food; veggies and fruit and whole grains, can give you acid reflux. It is a hot burning feeling in your throat or can cause chest pains, heartburn, in your chest and an indigestion feeling in your solo plex. This tends to be strongest at night and is aggravated by water more than anything else. Propping yourself up at night can help or sleeping upright but if you have this it should be treated properly. If an over the counter reflux med doesnt work, get some zantac. You can’t let this go untreated. You could burn a hole in you esophagus.
Q: Acid reflux?
What does acid reflux feel like? Give as many details as possible please.
A: I have acid reflux, it is not fun.
It starts as a burning feeling in the pit of your stomach, it increases and becomes and intense burning. It will then rise into your throat in waves. Sometimes it can get so painful that it feels like a heart attack. A doctor who treated me at the hospital (when I was first diagnosed) told me that sometimes they get in patients claiming heart attacks but it is really acid reflux.
You will also sometimes vomit when you are having an intense acid reflux attack, you vomit stomach acid, it burns your throat and mouth. I try to drink water really fast to ease the acid down back into my stomach, There is also a lot of burping, It is best to sit upright and not lie down when you are having and acid reflux attack.
Acid reflux sufferers benefit by raising the head of their beds up on bricks so the top of their body is elevated during sleep so that the acid has a harder time of crawling up the esophagus during sleep.
Q: acid/reflux?
could acid reflux come from hiatus hernia and cause problems with breathing-whats best advise to ease this
A: for more information see the webmd site below. please note the section that states “If you have shortness of breath or pain in the area of your breastbone, you need to make sure it is not caused by a heart problem.”

Q: How to tell if you have acid reflux disease?
I’m a firm believer that the world is over-prescribed. I think that pharmaceutical companies just want to give you a pill for everything under the sun. So with that in mind I never thought I would get acid reflux disease. I always thought that I could just live with general acid reflux, because so many people have in the past and they got along just fine.
So my question is: how can you tell if you have acid reflux? What are the symptoms and if I have it, how can I reduce it without medication.
Thanks in advance.
A: You need to see a doc if you think you have it for a confirmed diagnosis and a cause. You may have a hiatal hernia causing it but you would never know if you don’t see a doc. GERD is not something you can not treat as left unteated it can lead to esophogeal erosion which is serious. My dad never realized he had GERD and now has esophogeal erosion. See your doc if you think you have it.
Q: How long does it take for acid reflux in babies to go away?
My 2 month old baby has acid reflux. He is on Prevacid and Mylanta. I burp him and hold him upright for 30 mins after each meal. Question for all parents whose babies have had acid reflux: How long did it take for your babies to get rid off their acid reflux ?
A: My son has acid reflux…. He also has tracheomalacia (weakened trachea) He was on hypoallergenic formula… I didnt put him on zantac or prevacid or anything like that… the dr did suggest putting some cereal in the bottles, but I didnt want to do that either..
He is 6 months old now and is pretty much done with the whole acid reflux thing… He spits up sometimes, but not like he used to. We switched him back over to milk based formula when he started solids (around 5 months) and he has been good ever since.
I think it is really a baby by baby thing… each baby just has to grow out of it on their own.
Good luck.
Q: Whats the difference between laryngopharyngeal reflux and acid reflux?
And do the PPI’s such as nexium and other prescription ppi’s work to help laryngopharyngeal reflux? because i know once off it for acid reflux it creates “Acid rebound” BUT does it do the same for laryngophryngeal reflux?
A: There are two sphincter muscles in the esophagus – lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and the upper esophageal sphincter (UES). If the lower esophageal sphincter does not function properly, there is a back flow of stomach acid into the esophagus. 2 or more times a week can be classed as gastroesophageal reflux disease – GERD. If the upper esophageal sphincter doesn’t function properly, stomach acid that has back flowed into the esophagus is allowed into the throat and voice box – Laryngopharyngeal Reflux – LPR.
Unlike all the medical profession saying there is a fault with the esophageal sphincter, and many unnessary surgeries are performed to “correct” this problem, the fact is most people suffering from these conditions just have LOW stomach acid/lack of digestive enzymes in the diet. Acid blockers do not cure GERD, LPR or acid reflux. They should not be taken for more than 14 days, 8 weeks at the most.
My mother had both GERD and LPR for 5 years. Throwing away the acid blocker nexium, and starting digestive enzyme supplements, both GERD and LPR were gone in a few weeks (after trial and error of different digestive enzymes) and she continues to take them with each meal to help digestion. A simple digestive enzyme supplement that helps digest the food and increase stomach acid is all that is needed in most cases. Other causes of acid reflux include hiatus hernia, H Pylori bacteria (cured with antibiotics), obesity, pregnancy, asthma, diabetes (caused by low stomach acid) or hypothyroidism (caused by low stomach acid).
25 years of gastritis, 25 years of acid blockers! 80% better in 7 months already with digestive enzymes.
Mother suffered for 5 years with GERD and LPR….cured within a few weeks with alternative medicine….priceless

Q: What are the symptoms of acid reflux and How can you tell if you have it?
Lately my throat has felt like its burning and acid-y. It also feels like I have to burp after I eat. Are these symptoms of acid reflux?
A: Patients with acid reflux often report suffering from nausea. In fact, nausea as a result of acid reflux is so common that when a patient experiences nausea with no apparent cause, a doctor usually suspects acid reflux as the culprit.
Equally as common as nausea occurring from acid reflux is regurgitation. Regurgitation occurs when refluxed liquid actually backs up into the mouth. Sometimes, this liquid can contain food. When a patient regurgitates, they often experience a burning sensation as refluxed liquid and food bypass the UES (upper esophageal sphincter) and make their way into the mouth. This burning is often accompanied by an awful, acidic taste. If a patient continues to experience regurgitation, it can actually cause damage to their teeth as the acidic substance erodes the enamel that encases each tooth.
Probably the most common reported complaint of acid reflux patients is the presence of heartburn. This is usually characterized as a searing pain in the chest. It can either begin in your upper abdomen or actually travel up to your neck. For some patients, this can be a cause for alarm. In fact, many people have mistaken painful acid reflux for a heart attack. Heartburn is especially prevalent after eating meals. Although heartburn usually goes away, the bad news is that it is usually a lifelong problem that will eventually return.
Hope this helps…

Q: Who else has suffered from acid reflux during pregnancy? How to prevent the pain?
Hi, im 33 weeks pregnant and constantly getting a burning sensation in my throat. I find the more water I drink the worse it gets. Although when I eat a banana or drink a glass of milk it helps decrease the pain. Some people say it’s only because the baby is growing alot of hair, and that’s why you get heart burn and the acid. Is that true?
What else prevents acid reflux or eases the pain?
A: i feel for you honey because mine is pretty bad most of the time to.i looked up some tips that have seemed to help me some when it’s been really bad. 1st off the best thing i have found is when it hits to warm a glass of milk and put a tablespoon of honey in it.. it really did help some, then when i go to bed now, i elevate my head so that the acid can’t rush up in to my throat, and then my doctor also told me to not eat anything for about an hour or 2 before i go to bed..and then of course i also have a huge bottle of tums that i keep by my bed that seem to help when it’s not so bad.
Q: Have you ever had acid reflux before getting pregnant? and during the pregnancy?
hi i have a question. I just started taking prilosec otc today, because i have acid reflux. and a few days ago i had sex unprotected… (i know stupid of me) and that might of been while i was ovulating. just because i was ovulating does that mean i will 100% get pregnant?
i have a 7 month old already
and, have you ever been pregnant and had acid reflux? will getting pregnant (if i am) make my acid reflux worse
and if so is there any meds to take besides tums and stuff while pregnant?
A: My doctor prescribed Zantac to me while I was pregnant.
Q: How can I get rid of acid reflux after the stomach flu?
I had the stomach flu (gastroenteritis) a week ago and now I have terrible acid reflux! I’ve never had it before and it won’t go away. I’m taking antibiotics for something else right now and I’m not supposed to have antacid medicine. Any home remedies??
A: there are a lot of different home remedies out there for acid reflux. one that has worked well for me is taking a couple spoon fulls of apple cider vinegar. it tastes horrible but has worked.
everyone is different and there are a lot of different things that cause acid reflux so not every remedy will work for every person
Q: What is the difference between ulcer and acid reflux?
I have looked up the symptoms of both ulcer and acid reflux…however they seem quite similar. So what is the difference?
A: Acid in your stomach can eat through the stomach, which is a gastric ulcer.
Acid in your stomach can escape into your esophagus, which is acid reflux. The acid can damage the esophagus, causing an esophageal ulceration. The two are very similar, and the treatments are almost the same.
One difference: dairy products contain a compound (caesin) that can relax the gastric sphyncter, which is the valve on top of the stomach that lets swallowed food in but keeps acid from getting out. When this valve relaxes, you get more reflux. Because dairy is slightly basic, it will neutralize your stomach acid a bit, which can help ulcers. Of course, an antacid will neutralize the stomach acid a lot more.
Q: What type of alcohol is better to drink when U have acid reflux?
I have acid reflux and its pretty bad. I know alcohol is not good, but i am looking for a drink that is better to drink than others with acid reflux, any ideas?
A: No alcohol is good ! Alcohol causes stomach irritation. And although some people think milk is good for an ulcer , it is in fact an irritant to the stomach .Alcohol consumption should be reduced or avoided because:
Alcohol increases the production of stomach acid.
Alcohol relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), allowing stomach contents to reflux back up into the esophagus.
When the LES relaxes, it causes swallowing contractions to become erratic.
Alcohol makes the esophagus more sensitive to stomach acid.
Alcohol can lead to the development of peptic ulcers and interfere with the healing of ulcers already present.
So it wise to avoid alcohol at any cost unless you like pain and the chance of stomach cancer
Q: What to do if you experience acid reflux?
I woke up one day and my throat burned like crazy and i learned that it was acid reflux caused from eating too late and acid from your stomach seeping into your throat. I wanted to know what to do to help this because naturally ive just been drinking juice or water and eating lots of fruits to soothe it. Also, ive been experiencing a lot of coughing and wanted to know is this normal and what to do to prevent and help acid reflux.
A: 1. Fruits and juice will make it worse because they have acid in them.
2. To help acid reflux don’t eat before bed and sleep with your head slightly propped.
3. Antacids should help, I find mylanta is very helpful.
Q: Question about acid reflux and bed wedges?
I have problems with acid reflux when I sleep. I have been planning on buying a bed wedge or a good recliner chair.
Anyhow, any acid reflux sufferers able to recommend a bed wedge that you have used and like? If you have both a bed wedge and a recliner, do you find the recliner to be more comfortable for sleep?
A: Please check and take a look at this site….
