Q: Can acid reflux symptoms be confused with general anxiety?
I had an intestinal blockage about 7 years ago. They basically had to pump my stomach and remove all of its contents and anything in the intestines. Shortly after that I felt everyday and ALL day a general feeling of anxiety. Everything in my life was going fine, but there it was…this ever present tension….really bad tension. I have been going to a psychiatrist for the past year and he has prescribed me lorazapam and diazepam along with a myriad of anti-depressants. While they anti-axiety meds seems to work temporarily even the max dosage the doctor would allow wouldn’t get the me through the day.
The only “medication” that help get rid of everything was kratom…but is can be very addictive and very expensive since it’s not found at the local drugstore or pharmacy. Most doctors have no idea what it is.
And most of the general public have never heard of it. It is a plant grown in South East Asia, and while it is NOT an opiate is acts like one, but is not as strong. However, the strongest form of kratom (Ultra Enhanced Indonesian) has the worst withdrawal symptoms…much like heroin.
When I’m on kratom the anxiety and depression (though I really don’t think I have depression…just a withdrawal from the “euphoria” from the kratrom) disappear completely….while it is active in the body.
Strangely enough my question is whether acid reflux, which is something I think I got when I had my stomach and intestines pumped (with all of the acids flowing on my esophagus) can feel similar to anxiety? I never had acid reflux disease so I really don’t know what it feels like, but if it is similar to regular heartburn, but lasting all day long, then maybe I should be treated for that and not anxiety?
Any thoughts?
A: acid reflux is when the opening to the top of your stomach does not work correctly and allows stomach acid to back up into your esophagus.
In my daughter, this causes heartburn, throwing up, extreme pain in her upper stomach and throat and a feeling of choking.
She controls it by not eating directly before bed, not eating spicy stuff(pizza, chili, etc) at least a couple of hours before bed, elevating the head end of the bed(pillows don’t work the bed itself must be elevated) and in general controls how much carbonated beverages she consumes as well.
The pain and throwing up is from the stomach acid which burns and can damage the esophogus which is not suppose to have stomach acid up there.
I have never heard of anxiety causing acid reflux or acid reflux causing anxiety but I suppose the worry of the threat of an attack of pain and barfing could cause anxiety.
Along with your medication, you should also be in therapy for anxiety.
My sister has it and while the medication helped, the therapy helped even more as she learned techniques do deal with those feelings.
While it is true that you cannot stop or control mental illness you can help yourself in some ways. Eating healthy, getting fresh air and exercise, being out in the sun, learning all you can about your condition are all good things to do.
Your drug no has heard of is not an answer to anything. Wouldn’t you rather take control of your life than give it over to some drug??
Q: What are the symptoms of acid reflux disease?
How can you reduce the symptoms?
A: have apple or pineapple juice. thy sort your stomach out straight away. or black grapes before bed time and have warm water after it. constipation can cause i t, eating too fast can cause it too or just your metablism can do it. stress causes it. all sorts can bring it on. spicy food too etc. for some ppl milk works, for others, it makes it worse. depends which one of them u are.
Q: How long do acid reflux symptoms last?
Lately I had a mild case of acid reflux. After a few days I was put on some medicine (Rezhest and aciphex, apologies if I spelled one of the names wrong) and I am feeling better. My symptoms *were* chest pain, feeling like I need to vomit, and some other symptoms. Most of these symptoms went away except the very very mild chest pain which seems to come and go every now and then, and a very mild soar throat. How long will the soar throat and chest pain last? My doctor says about a few weeks for the throat, but I forgot to ask them about the chest pain.
Sorry forgot to add some stuff.
I am 16, and I only started having this chest pain when I got acid reflux, it’s only been about 3-4 days now with the mild chest pain.
A: Ryan – Acid reflux results when some of the very acidic stomach digestive juices move back up into the lower end of the esophagus and damage the surface of the esophagus. Some medicines can reduce the amount of acid the stomach secretes. At your age of 16, try taking smaller volumes of food at one time to reduce chances of back up of stomach contents. Avoid lying down after a meal to reduce back-up of stomach contents. In some people, the normal diaphragm muscle, which normally squeezes shut the top of the stomach, fails to contract, thus allowing backflow of acid juices. This is known as a hiatus hernia and may involve or require minor surgery with a couple of stitches to correct the hiatus hernia. This is uncommon at your young age but common in many older adults. Healing may take a couple of weeks after the reflux stops.
Q: what are the symptoms of acid reflux?
I think i have it cus i get a burning throat sometimes and my stomach feels weird and my chest hurts…are these symptoms of it?
btw im only 16 but i used to have an eating disorder may it have caused it?
thanks
A: quick internet search:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_reflux
try searching for “Gastroesophageal reflux disease” or GERD, and you’ll get more results.
Q: Can not eating for a while cause acid reflux symptoms to occur?
For around the past year or so I’ve acquired what seems to be acid reflux. The only time I can really feel it is if I haven’t eaten for around 6+ hours. My throat burns and it feels like acid coming up my throat and into the back of my mouth. It’s really unbearable, I hate it. So does not eating for an extended period of time worsen acid reflux symptoms or cause them to come on? Is there anything that helps with this? I don’t eat if I’m not hungry and I work a lot so sometimes I forget to eat and then the burning comes back and stays for quite a long time.
A: I think so. Cause ive had acid reflux since i was a kid, and during times when I felt sick I was always told to eat bread or something. I always imagined the acid in my stomach soaking into the bread, cause i figured without the bread there’s nothing there for the acid to soak into so it just eats at my stomach instead. (or in your case, you feel it in your throat, which can happen)
I have no idea if thats how it really works, but thats how I picture it. So if my theory is somewhat correct, then yes, not having food in your stomach will cause the acid to bother you
Q: what are the symptoms of acid reflux in a newborn?
I have a 1 month old baby boy. He has been spitting up every time he eat and when we lay him down he will sometimes spit up more than twice. We burp him after every ounce he drinks and at night he will wake up crying.
he is drinking formula he drinks similac advance
A: spitting up, or just making an “urp” sound in the back of the throat”
often arching the back and fussing while eating
often seeming to gulp food
1 month is the age where babies frequently become more efficient nursers, and for many of them, they are more swallowing faster than they can deal with, so they temporarily get reflux symptoms. These usually go away w/in a week as baby learns to deal with eating faster. If your son has just started doing this, that might be the cause.
Some things you can do to help are avoiding clothing that is tight around the waist, burping well (as you are), feeding him sitting up (but not slumped forward, like babies can be in a bouncy chair), and elevating the head end of his mattress by placing a pillow or book under it.
If this persists more than a few days, or your son is spitting up considerable amounts, or it frequently smells like vomit (ie, is coming from his stomach, not what he just swallowed), I would at least call your drs office and talk to a nurse; they can tell you whether your son needs to be seen right away or not.
Q: what was your gerd or acid reflux symptoms??
tell what the symtoms are…i get a full nauseas feeling, along with a hot feeling face,w/no fever…just feels hot….also seem like i get a cough at night that about makes me vomit, but hardly ever heartburn……does it sound like it to you? what where your symptoms? do you take nexium prilosac or?
A: I have suffered from GERD. I was on Protonics for about a year. Symptoms of GERD. You chew and swallow your food. Then sometime during your meal, you will chew and swallow your food, and your food will go about half way down, then come back up.
It is of great discomfort. My suggestion to you is to call your PCP and have them set you up an appointment with a GI Doctor. The GI Doctor will perform and endoscopy of you. They will run a narrow rubber tube down your nose or throat with a camera on the end and take pictures of your throat esophagus, food tube and to the entrance of your stomach.
He will be able to tell if you have reflux or something more serious.
Q: Is this GERD / acid reflux Symptoms?
Hello, i wonder if burping all the time and a warm full feeling in the back of your throat when burping could be acid reflux? I am pregnant and have had a sore throat for a while and excessive mucus in my throat, and contstant throat clearing. been to the docs and he says its Acid reflux but i dont get heartburn so i am confused
xx
A: My Dad has this condition and he never got heartburn at all. Worse; he had great difficulty in swallowing as the years went by, and could only do so after taking some sort of muscle relaxant. Listen to your doctor on this one
Good luck…
Q: Does anyone else have nausea as their primary acid reflux symptom?
I know its possible that some people have nausea as a more prevalent symptom for their acid reflux than heartburn.
and im nauseous a lot with no explanation, and i do have stomach issues, heartburn several times a month, but more nausea.
so do any of u have nausea as there main acid reflux symptom?
A: I have been experiencing similar symptoms in the last few weeks. i feel nausea after eating a big meal and get burps stuck in my throat…but when i do get the burps out a bit of liquid comes up too if i’m not careful. The nausea i have isn’t terrible, just feel a little light headed but it’s still no fun at all. It makes me really paranoid about throwing up which is one of my biggest fears, think that’s the hardest part.
Q: WHAT ARE acid reflux SYMPTOMS?!?!??!?
Im only 13 and I think i have acid reflux its where i feel like i have to burp and i kinda spit up liquidy stuff…that sounds kinda gross but someone please help me it hurts really bad because it burns my throat
Oh yeah, does it have anything to do with weight either? Because im quite petite not even 100 pounds so idk…
A: I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Q: acid reflux symptoms?
Hello, i have had a heavy feeling at the base of my throat and the top of my chest for about a week, constant burping even water ( and its always a wet burp ) sorry
and a slight asthma feeling again in my throat that makes me want to cough but when i do i realise i dont need to ( if that makes sense), bad taste in mouth, excessive mucus in the back on my throat and constant swallowing. Doc says i have acid reflux but i havent had any heartburn. Please tell me this is normal
xxxx
A: I used to have normal acid reflux then I got pregnant. It changed during my pregnancy then it was different after I gave birth. I get it the same way you have it now. Unfortunately I haven’t found a good way to stop it. Milk and tums used to be the cure but it doesn’t help when it’s so high up in the chest. So yes it is normal! You should try going on something like prilosec to see if it helps. I just started taking it myself.
Q: how do you know if you have acid reflux?
acid reflux symptoms??? my dad said i might have it and i keep feeling alot of weird taste in my mouth like rotten egg and my stomach aches and overheated alot what do you think?
A: Acid reflux disease (GERD) is only one of many kinds of digestive diseases commonly known as “heartburn.” There are specific symptoms that will help you determine whether or not you have acid reflux or “GERD.”
If you have a “searing” sensation in the digestive tract, you have one of the most common symptoms of GERD. This sensation can often be felt in the throat or the chest. Other common symptoms are hoarseness, an acrid taste in the mouth, bitterness or sourness in the mouth, frequent coughing and wheezing.
There are some special characteristics that can help indicate the existence of GERD. One of them is the presence of pain or that “searing” sensation when one is lying down or just bending over. If this should occur, try to sleep on the back with the head elevated. Some people claim that physical activity and exercise help diminish acid reflux over time.
~Hope this helped you~
Q: hey doctors….swollen ankles and acid reflux symptoms of what??
for the last few months i have been getting acid reflux about 4-5 days out of the week really bad, now just the last week my ankles have been swelling, and i’m always tired. heres a little back ground incase it helps: i am a 22yr old female, i smoke about a pack a day (since i was 14yrs old), i’m 5′6″ 160lbs, i have a sitting job, i dont workout, and im not on any medication. i had my thyroid checked not too long ago and it was fine….so what could this be? is it all even related?
A: The water retention maybe related to too much sodium in your diet or a kidney or heart problems. Acid reflux maybe your diet or digestion problems. See your doctor.
Q: Treating 2 month old with Zantac for acid reflux, symptoms ?
I’ve been treating my 2 month old for acid reflux with Zantac for one week now. Before we started the medicine he was awake for five or six hour periods during the day, sleep for 20-30 mins top about twice. Sometimes he would get in two hours at a time. Putting him down for the night was terrible. He fussed a lot and just couldn’t calm down to go to sleep until after three hours or so. He was fussy throughout the day as well. He wouldn’t take a pacifier either until this week. My son has been this way ever since we brought him home.
Since starting Zantac and especially just the last two days. My son spends most of his time sleeping however he’s not lethargic. He was awake for two hours this morning and four hours this afternoon. It’s now 8pm and he’s been sleeping since 6:30p. His eating has gone down some but is still eating good. Taking 4 oz bottles every four hours where before it was 4-6 ounces every 2-3hrs.
This is my first child so I can only compare to his behavior from before and I had thought before was normal.
So my questions are:
Does his behavior change indicate that the medicine is working? Or should I be concerned and what is a normal day for a 2 month old?
Thank you ” hearts” for being a moron.
For the record. I have a liquid form of Zantac which is a prescription from the pharmacy which required a script from a pediatrician.
Wow! Seriously!?!?! SO GLAD THAT I ALREADY SAID THAT THE ZANTAC IS A PRESCRIPTION FROM THE PEDIATRICIAN. Apparently some of us responding don’t know how to read
A: Ignore the stupid people. My son is on acid reflux meds too, and has been since about 2 months old. Babies sleep a lot. my friends kid sleeps about 12h at night and has 2-3 2h naps a day. Dr says as long as she is developing normally it is fine. I noticed my son started sleeping better once the meds had taken effect, though not super. Sounds like baby is eating ok. Talk to your peds dr but my guess would be as long as he is gaining weight, developmentally on track and such he is doing ok. It sounds like the meds are working. Congrats. Took us two different meds, a few trips to emerg (as he stopped breathing from choking on the acid that he brought up) and many different doses to have something that finally worked!
Q: what are some mild symptoms of acid reflux?
?
A: bad heartburn that doesn’t subside with antacids.
frequent burping.
sometimes the heartburn gets so bad you feel like your going to vomit or it can make you cough.
