Q: Ulcer Symptoms?
Can someone tell me the common symptoms of a stomach ulcer? I think I may have one … I have heartburn all the time and intense nausea after I eat .. so much in fact that I have to take an anti-nausea to avoid vomiting. I have an endoscopy scheduled for the end of January that should tell more on what is going on. In the meantime, does anyone know if this sounds like an ulcer, and what I can do to relieve my symptoms? I do limit caffeine and I don’t smoke. Thank you!

A: You may have what is called gastric esophageal reflux disease and/or gastritis. As the previous writer said, avoid spicey, acidic foods including tomatoe based products. Also, eat smaller more frequent meals, avoid eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, try cutting out all caffeine(hard to do but it will make you feel better) as well as no alcohol. You may want to try an over the counter med such as Prilosec. It did wonders for me when i had the same symptoms.
Good luck hon. Hope you feel better!

Q: Ulcer symptoms?
Pain in top of abdomen after eating spaghetti and lately twice, I have vomitted when I overate.

A: Symptoms of Ulcer
There may be no symptoms of ulcers or the individual may experience:

A gnawing or burning pain in the abdomen between the breastbone and the navel. The pain is usually worse a couple of hours after a meal or in the middle of the night when the stomach is empty.

Nausea
Vomiting
Loss of appetite
Loss of weight
Tiredness (a symptom of a bleeding ulcer)
Weakness (a symptom of a bleeding ulcer)
Blood in vomit or stool. When blood is in the stool, it appears tarry or black (symptom of a bleeding ulcer

Q: What are the symptoms of duodenal ulcer or any ulcer in the digestive system?
What are the symptoms of duodenal ulcer or any ulcer in the digestive system?
plz help fast…

A: There are many signs and symptoms from either or both of these. From bloody or black colored stool to constipation that isn’t relieved after 2-3 days. The duodenal is a part of the colon and the symptoms are usually different from a stomach ulcer. The stomach ulcer can still have you bringing up blood or having it go through the entire colon, then there can be allot of gas that isn’t relieved, to not wanting to eat at all. You can also vomit blood from an ulcer. Since the colon is about 25 feet of a turning open tunnel it wraps around and then up then around until it finally turns down toward the rectum and anus. If you suspect any problems with any part of the digestive system which includes the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas and gallbladder and then the appendix until finally the colon and down try going to a GI doctor for a complete exam of this system. As you get older it’s a great idea to have your digestive system checked for any problems including polyps and or cancer. Good luck and God Bless

Q: what are the symptoms of a stomach ulcer?
I have been stomach aque after what ever i eat no matter if its healty or coffee, i was told i might have a stomach ulcer what are the symptoms, because im only 23 and when i eat my side hurts like if it was right by ribs when its hurting.

A: The Vagus nerve connects from the spine to the stomach, so the pain can be felt in the back as well as the stomach, or side. You need to see a doctor to have the test for the H. Pyloric Bacterium, if you have the bacterium, the doctor will give you two weeks antibiotics to kill it and then probably a course of Nexium to cure the ulcer where the bacterium was. Don’t let this go, pain is always a warning that something is wrong. And ulcers can perforate, which means the contents of the stomach, food, stomach acid, blood will be dumped into the abdominal cavity. When this happens it requires surgery.

Q: what are the symptoms for a perforated ulcer?
i think i might have a stomach ulcer, how do i know if its perforated, what are the symptoms, please help me. thank you
well i have painful stomach pains right now but how painful would it be if its perforated like would i be crying from pain?

A: A perforated ulcer is usually extremely painful. Think acid (from the stomach) on the lining of your abdomen.

Q: what are the symptoms for ulcer? is it good to avoid breakfast to reduce weight?
my height is 180 cm and my weight is 84 kg, so my friend said to reduce weight by avoiding breakfast and i am practising it for 1 month and i am experiencing slight burning effects in my stomach? what is the reason for that and i am suspecting wether would it be the begining of ulcer? what i am supposed to do next.

A: Symptoms of an ulcer include burning in the stomach and nausea. Skipping breakfast is probably not the best idea, rather portion control would be better.

Q: I think I have an ulcer… What are good and bad foods to eat, and what are the symptoms of an ulcer?
Last thursday, I began having odd feelings in my stomach and chest area, which turned into nausia. Then, I went to the doctor, and he did some tests, ruling out kidney and heart problems, so the remaining things on his list were: Ulcer, Digestive Problem (kinda vague, huh…) and anxiety disorder. I think I have an ulcer, because after I drink orange juice, eat chocolate, or spicy foods, the symptoms become worse… I’m going to another doctor soon (the first one was just a walk-in) To (hopefully) get tested, or something… Anyways, what are good foods to eat, that won’t upset an ulcer, and what are some bad foods for an ulcer? Also, it seems like anything remotely worrying causes it to kind of burn, it’s weird… Is that characteristic of an ulcer? I don’t think I have an anxiety disorder, though, because of the food thing… Anyways… If you’ve ever had an ulcer, please tell your story… I hope it’s not too hard to get rid of….
I meant last thusday as in over a week ago.

A: Foods and anxiety/stress can cause an ulcer to flare and cause pain. I’ve had two, both have healed, with diet and learning to control anxiety and stress, directing it better instead of holding onto feelings etc. As you stated, oj, chocolate, spicy and acidic foods, all will cause you discomfort. A bland diet is usually best until you get the symptoms under control. Your doctor’s statement regarding a digestive disorder should be vague, as it could be irritable bowel syndrome, a Hiatal Hernia, or many other issues that are not deadly, but cause you to have stomach upset. The hernia will cause you to have heartburn, gas, pressure from the gas making you feel tense and uncomfortable. Anxiety and worry can cause your body to produce excess acids, that eat at the stomach and sometimes back up into the esophagus. Irritable bowel can cause stomach discomfort, along with bowel movements that sway between constipation and diarrhea, with cramping. You will likely be given an upper GI test, drinking barium and following it to see if there is an ulcer. Once that is ruled out, or verified, your doctor will give you a menu so to speak, or foods that are good for you and ones to avoid. If you are like me, it’s the foods you love that will be eliminated from your diet. Mine healed within six months, but I do get stomach upset when holding stress/anxiety. Something you learn to live with, and learn about your coping skills.

Q: Do the following symptoms seem indicative of an ulcer?
Based on the following symptoms, do you think I have an ulcer? If doctors and/or persons who have had ulcers before could answer, that would be preferable to someone who simply provides me with a web link – I have already Googled the symptoms.

My only real symptom is an odd pain that accompanies feelings of hunger, that mostly occur at night. That is the only symptom. Is that enough to be an ulcer? Is it possible that it’s something that could go away on its own?

A: Possibly, eating coats the stomach which might stop the pain temporarily.

Q: If you have an ulcer, what are the symptoms of it exploding?
My bf has stomach ulcers. Right now he is in intense pain. He says he chest hurts extremely bad. It has happened before but I honestly think he is going to be okay. He doesn’t want to go to the ER because it takes about 6 hours before they will even see you. I thought that the symptoms were puking or coughing up blood. Does anyone know the symptoms?
He has been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer and he hasn’t been taking his medicine as often as he is supposed to.

A: ring anh ambulance straight away.
this can be life threatening.
my mother has one & she has bad chest pains but sometimes its a false alarm

coughing up blood, dizzyness, lightheaded, really really bad chest pains.

ring anh ambulance.

Q: I have what looks like a very faint corneal ulcer on my eye but i am not experiencing any other symptoms?
when i look in a mirror and look really close i can see a very faint white circle on my iris. I looked on the computer and found corneal ulcers. they look similar to whats on my eye (but whats on my eye is a lot less noticeable). i am experiencing no other symptoms of a corneal ulcer though. does anyone know what this could be?

A: stop self diagnosing yourself go and tell your optometrist your concern and let that person decide what it is better and smarter

Q: How long after getting a stomach ulcer would you notice symptoms?
Yesterday I drank alcohol, took advil, and all on an empty stomach. I ate something right after I took the advil though. I’ve done this before and didn’t know it was bad but then found out this morning. It was last night that I did the drinking and had the advil, and now I keep having meals and like right after I eat I feel like I have an empty stomach and it kind of hurts and I heard that’s what the symptoms are. Is it possible for it to be there that quickly?

A: There are more problems than just a stomach ulcer that would cause discomfort in your abdomen. I hope that you have some insurance so that the right tests can be done. I know. I am going through the same thing. Pain from not eating, pain from eating..Pain in the general area of my tummy.
The worst thing about stomach problems is that they are so tied in with your emotions as well. Stress can be a MAJOR cause of problems and physical damages from an ulcer or whatever (I am not a nurse or doctor) causes you to be unable to live normal and eat normal food.
Get some help and probably take a break from the juice…not good. Your choice. Good Luck.

Q: What are common symptoms of an ulcer?
I think I might have an ulcer, but don’t want to see the doc unless I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.

A: Burning pain is the most common symptom of a peptic ulcer. The pain is caused by the ulcer and is aggravated by stomach acid coming in contact with the ulcerated area. The pain typically may:

Be felt anywhere from your navel to your breastbone
Last from a few minutes to many hours
Be worse when your stomach is empty
Flare at night
Often be temporarily relieved by eating certain foods that buffer stomach acid or by taking an acid-reducing medication
Come and go for a few days or weeks

Q: Why is it when I have stomach pain (ulcer type symptoms), my upper back and neck go out of wack?
I am 36 years old and I periodically have my stomach start to hurt about two inches above my belly button and my upper back goes out. It has been happening since my teens. It typically happens like two or three times a year and last about a month. It is a pain in the neck! I mean, it is a pain in the stomach! Can some super genius tell me what is going on?

A: I would advise you to go to a licensed chiropractor. I believe (from my own experience as a patient) that the stomach pain may be just weak muscles, meaning your spine is not getting proper muscular support. I was skeptical when I first saw a chiropractor after I was in a bad car accident, but when he totally relieved my back and neck pain I became a believer! Hope you can get some relief. – M

Q: What are the symptoms of a stomach Ulcer?
What are the symptoms of a stomach and what do you do if you have one?
What are the symptoms of a stomach Ulcer and what do you do if you have one??

A: A stomach or gastric ulcer is a break in the tissue lining the stomach. Basically they can appear in the first part of the stomache or the small intestine. There are alot of causes of stomache ulcers and it could even be as simple as you have eaten something you shouldn’t have, in that case it would be a extreme case of a gastric disease like my grams has.

Some stomach ulcers are asymptomatic. The symptoms of a stomach ulcer can include:

Abdominal pain just below the ribcage
Indigestion
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Vomiting
Weight loss
Altered blood present in the vomit or in the bowel motions (occasionally)
Symptoms of anaemia, such as light-headedness.

I strongly suggest to avoid getting any worse, get it checked out by a doctor, then at least you can be sure. Good Luck

Q: What are the symptoms of a corneal ulcer?
say, u look in the mirror at home, not by a professional but you know, you want to make sure your eyes are healthy. What do you see in your eye if you have a corneal ulcer? a blurry white spot, etc. etc.???

A: corneal ulcer may cause red eye, blurred vision, small size of pupil,n extreme pain.its caused by sum foreign particle, chemical exposure to the eye or by contact lenses.it can also b caused by viral infection..it can b diagnosed by other signs that a doctor can see using a slit lamp.

Q: Peptic Ulcer?
I have a Peptic ulcer caused by Helicobacter pylori infection.. I have been to see many doctors and they dont help, most subscribe a medicine called Nexium to put me on but it doest help.. does anyone know any remedies to help rid Helicobacter pylori infection? thanks.

A: There are ANTIBIOTIC regimens to eradicate H.Pylori , they are updated every several years according to variation in sensitivity and new drugs appearing , but you still need a doctors prescription .
I think the most recent one consists of Amoxicillin plus Metronidazole or Clarithromycin .
However here is a folk medicine you could use :
Gather PEELS of POMEGRANATES and let them SOAK in water for some time .
The water color will become BROWNISH RED .
This extract is RICH in antioxidants and natural antibiotics , plus it is alkaline which helps neutralize stomach acid .
It has been proven to help HEART disease a lot , but it’s use against ulcer and stomach disease is little known .
I’ve tried it myself AND IT WORKS , even when taken by itself .
Try it , and if it works out for you , the LEAST you could do is give me BEST ANSWER .

Q: peptic ulcer!!!…………?
what is the drug and non-drug treatment of peptic ulcer?

A: Treatment
Younger patients with ulcer-like symptoms are often treated with antacids or H2 antagonists before EGD is undertaken. Bismuth compounds may actually reduce or even clear organisms.

Patients who are taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) may also be prescribed a prostaglandin analogue (Misoprostol) in order to help prevent peptic ulcers, which may be a side-effect of the NSAIDs.

When H. pylori infection is present, the most effective treatments are combinations of 2 antibiotics (e.g. Clarithromycin, Amoxicillin, Tetracycline, Metronidazole) and 1 proton pump inhibitor (PPI), sometimes together with a bismuth compound. In complicated, treatment-resistant cases, 3 antibiotics (e.g. amoxicillin + clarithromycin + metronidazole) may be used together with a PPI and sometimes with bismuth compound. An effective first-line therapy for uncomplicated cases would be Amoxicillin + Metronidazole + Rabeprazole (a PPI). In the absence of H. pylori, long-term higher dose PPIs are often used.

Treatment of H. pylori usually leads to clearing of infection, relief of symptoms and eventual healing of ulcers. Recurrence of infection can occur and retreatment may be required, if necessary with other antibiotics. Since the widespread use of PPI’s in the 1990s, surgical procedures (like “highly selective vagotomy”) for uncomplicated peptic ulcers became obsolete.

Perforated peptic ulcer is a surgical emergency and requires surgical repair of the perforation. Most bleeding ulcers require endoscopy urgently to stop bleeding with cautery or injection.

Q: Peptic ulcer?
I am 27 years old and I recently had a baby (7 weeks ago). Since then, I’ve been having a dull pain and bloating around my upper stomach, by my breast bone. It gets worse after eating, and the discomfort sometimes radiate to my back and chest. My obgyn said it has nothing to do with recently having a baby and assumes it’s just heartburn. I’ve been taking protonix, with no relief. I am going back to my GI doctor next week. Has anyone has a peptic ulcer and does it sound like what I am experiencing?
It’s almost constant and is made worse after eating, no matter what I eat. It is usually worse at night.

A: this is Anil from India ,, i m not a doctor but i have hospital here ,, and it is simple acidity bcoz of pragnency ,, u feel heartburn and bcoz of that acid it creat gasses in your stomach and bcoz of its pressure ,, u feel headch and uneasyness too ,, so dont worry just meet your gynecologist and they will advice u some ,, medecines like Omaprazole 40 mg or Pentaprazole 40 mg with ,, Domparidone 10 mg ,, Pantaprazole is for acidity and Domparidone for vomating sensasions ,, so dont worry ,, drink milk and icecream twice a day it can desolve acide in your stomach ,, and its very common problem so dont worry much ,, some time enxeity also increase acide secration in stomach bbye tc all the best my english is not good ,, so i m sorry if i made spell mistakes

Q: Can peptic ulcer bleeding cause blood poisoning?
If peptic ulcer bleed, can the wound be infected by bacteria and cause blood poisoning. If it does what are the symptoms?

A: Not that I’ve ever heard of. Most bacteria are killed quickly in the stomach.

Q: If you have a peptic ulcer, should you diet high in fats or high in proteins?
What if you had a duodenal peptic ulcer? Would it be better if you eat many meals in small portions? Or few meals in large portions?

A: Have u done the antibitoics treatment for 14 days ….i usually eat like a pregnant woman with gas …so small meals in portion….i really hat ehavin this

Q: What is my peptic ulcer risk from daily coffee drinking? Doctors help me out, please?
I drink a cup of coffee 1-4 times daily, depending on the day (usually 2 cups). I have recently read in a medical journal that coffee increases the production of gastric acids which can cause peptic ulcers. Does this mean I am at risk for developing ulcers due to my regular coffee consumption?

Advice from MD or DO doctors would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need any extra information? I am a 17 year old hispanic/caucasian male.

A: The caffeine in the coffee isn’t good for you. I had ulcers when I was younger but the things you need to avoid most is acidic foods, fried and spicy foods and soda pops, they recommend you shake most of the acid out before drinking them if you must drink pop. A couple of cups of coffee a day won’t hurt but I would drink decaf if I had more than 2 cups a day, plus decaf will let you sleep better.

Q: What are the physiological reasons for peptic ulcer pain?
I understand the causes of peptic ulcers, but what I want to know is how the ulcers themselves cause pain.

A: the ulcer destroys a part of the lining of the stomach. the area that looses the protective lining is very sensitive to the acid environment and you feel a burning sensation

Q: how likely is it for a teen to develop a peptic ulcer?
how likely is it for a teen to develop a peptic ulcer?

A: Hi Benji,
If you are not taking food at the right time, spicy hot foods can cause peptic Ulcer. Also check for H.Pylori which would cause Ulcer of the stomach. It is essential to check with an experienced Gastroenterologist.

Q: What effect is a before-dinner cocktail have on digestion? Why is it inadvisable to persons w/ peptic ulcer?
What effect is a before-dinner cocktail likely to have on digestion? Why are such beverages inadvisable to persons w/ peptic ulcer?

A: At optimum levels, alcohol increases appitite and is said to stimulate the secretion of gastric fluids that aids in digestion.
People suffering from peptic ulcer have problems with their gastric mucosa (it prevents the stomach-acid from burning the stomach lining) and alcohol further detoriates this condition by disturbing this protective layer. This exacerbates the existing ulceration.

Q: why do patients who severe peptic ulcer disease have to eat small quantities of food frequently ?
why do patients who have had a large portion of their stomachs removed for treatment of stomach cancer or severe peptic ulcer disease have to eat small quantities of food frequently instead of consuming three meals a day?

A: To neutralize the acid in stomach which continuosly secreted sometimes even on empty stomach

Q: Can I use cephalexin to cure my peptic ulcer?
I recently just got my second peptic ulcer, a friend had some extra cephalexin, if I took this would it help cure my ulcer? Also my second question is I am allergic to ammoxicillin what are the possibilities of me being allergic to cephalexin?
Is there any over the counter antibiotics I can use to cure the ulcer?

A: Just because you are allergic to penicillin doesn’t mean you will be allergic to cephalexin – it is a different type of antibiotic.

But it is not a good idea taking medication that has not been prescribed for you. This is not a good antibiotic for treating infections in the gastrointestinal tract so probably won’t help. How do you know you have got a second peptic ulcer? Has it been diagnosed? Because whoever diagnosed it should be recommending the appropriate treatment. Other antibiotics like metronidazole and tetracycline work better for peptic ulcers and are normally used in combination with an acid suppressor.

It is better to see a Doctor who can put you on the right treatment. It is no good taking antibiotics that won’t help because you might become resistant to them and if you need them in the future they may not work as well as they should

Q: can you catch peptic ulcer when you are 11?
I took this test and it said that I had a very likely chance of having peptic ulcer. Can I get that when I am 11?

A: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=peptic+ulcer&fr=ush-ans&ygmasrchbtn=Web+Search&pvid=nK0M10oGkukR9HiISxcqSgKNSz4Dc0scONEABpRb
Eat small meals and don’t eat late. Watch the high acid food. Take an antacid before bed if needed.

Q: I overdosed on ibpreprun. And i dont feel like eating and i feel sick. Could i have peptic ulcer?
Last night i had diharrea and my poo had a little red that i thought would be tomatoes or salsa..and im really tired and weak…and on the size of my stomach im getting sharp pains on and off. Could this be peptic ulcer. I have a full stomach and dont feel like eating..but that could be from eating to much.
CAN I DIE?
WHT COULD IT BE?

A: Go to the hospital now!! The longer you wait the more damage that will occur to your internal organs. Seriously go NOW!

Also, the red in your stool could be caused from bleeding of the stomach which is seriouse. Call someone and go to the hospital now!!

Q: how would you encourage someone with ulcers to get on the peptic ulcer diet?
i have to do a paper on the peptic ulcer diet and one of the questions i have to answer in my paper is how would you encourage someone with ulcers to get on the peptic ulcer diet? i need to have the paper done by friday so i hope i get my answer soon!!!!

A: In my medical experience, there is no such thing as a peptic ulcer diet.

There are 2 main causes of PUD. If the ulcer is caused by H. pylori bacteria, antibiotics will be necessary to reverse the damage. If it is caused by NSAID over-use (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ie aspirin), you need to discontinue using the NSAID.

As far as food and diets go, you can eat whatever you like as tolerated by the pain of the ulcer.

Q: i need to know if i have a peptic ulcer?
i went to the doctor to see if i had a peptic ulcer but he said that it might be one .then he gave me some pills to stop the pain but they didnt do nothin else for it.i have bad pains while i eat and a little after and after a few hours some of the food i ate comes up.It doesnt matter what i eat or drink it still hurts.so should i go to the doctor again or wait a little bit longer.

A: you should go to to your E.R if having such pains it might be a peptic ulcer or hiatus hernia or a duodeal ulcer

Q: Mouth Ulcers?
I have braces and I have horrible mouth ulcers like 6.
I also have fever in them and even my prescription medicine isnt getting rid of them.
I already tried the salt water and mouth wash.
Almost nothing is helping.
Im numbing it right now with orajel until I can find a way to get rid of it.
Please any suggestions would be nice.

A: Try to put wax on the brackets that are rubbing on those areas. Keep doing the salt water thing as it does help heal the mouth. Your braces are rubbing and causing this so I’d imagine the wax will help. At least it will allow the pain to subside for a while.

Q: mouth ulcers?
I get mouth ulcers all the time. I’ve researched everything and can’t seem to pinpoint what is causing them. I’m currently taking vitamins and thinking about changing toothpaste. Anyone else have the same problem or have any suggestions?

In Pain

A: I have worked in the dental profession for 18 yrs. Mouth ulcers are common and can be very painful. try Adcortyl in Orabase paste 10g. and use a Mouthwash called Gengigel, its all natural stuff but really helps. Is there a chance your iron levels are low? this can cause ulceration. They should always clear up after aprox 7 – 10 days. Ask your dentist for a referral to a specialist if you are worried.

Q: Mouth ulcers?
Why do we get mouth ulcers on the tongue and how can they be prevented?

A: Wash your mouth with warm salt water. They can be caused by stress.

Q: Mouth ulcers and burnt feeling in the roof of my mouth?
I don’t remember burning the roof of my mouth, but for the last 5 days the roof of my mouth has been really painful as if burnt. I’ve also got quite a few mouth ulcers and generally sore lips. It hurts to eat. I’ve been rinsing with Oraldine (UK brand mouthwash), but it’s not easing.

Any suggestions?

A: Time to get it checked out you might need antibiotics to clear it up .don,t let it get worse.

Q: Can mouth ulcers be the result of the flu or a morning sickness?
My mom has a sore throat, her ears hurt, drowsiness, chills, and she has a fever going on and off throughout the day. The symptoms started about three days ago.

My mom also just discovered that she has gum disease on one side of her mouth.

Are mouth ulcers a result to either of these?

A: I have 4 in my mouth right now as well as the flu. They are known to hit when the immune system is down trying to fight the flu virus it then can’t protect the mouth. I don’t know if the gum disease has an effect. I have been put on a strong anti bacterial mouth antibiotic to take care of the ulcers. The flu just started yesterday. Two days after the ulcers began. If you can afford it I recommend seeing your family doctor so they can help out with both. Maybe a dentist for the gum disease.

Q: What causes mouth ulcers and how can you prevent them?
I suffer from mouth ulcers and have not found any reasons why I get them when I get them. There are simple OTC treatments out there but I am interested in prevention.

A: there are so many ulcers and of course any reasons for causing them. you need to describe your ulcer more specific.in which part of your mouth you have them? how often do you get them?
if you have recurrent aphtus ulcers, you may have some other systemic disease or some immune system problems. take them serious.& consult a doctor.but remember:Any ulcer in mouth area which isn’t heal in a proper time should be checked by a specialist.

Q: How do you prevent getting mouth ulcers?
I suffer from ulcers terribly every few months. I’m fit, heathly eat a well balanced diet, but every so often I get them and about 4 or 5 at a time in my mouth. I think it may be due to stress or lack of sleep as we have a new born, but i may be wrong. Is there any way I can prevent these. I obviously use bonjela when I get them.

A: Treat any you have with very hot & very salty mouth washes. Hurts like hell but will clear them up quickly. I’d suggest looking at changing to a toothpaste that doesn’t contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (foaming agent) as this has been found to be the guilty constituent behind many cases of mouth ulcers. There is a make called Hollytrees that doesn’t contain SLS & you can get this in your health food shop. I’m sure this will sort your recurrent problem out.

Q: How can i get rid of my consistent mouth ulcers on the insides of my lips?
I have HUGE mouth ulcers & they last for a few months at a time. I cannot talk aloud very well without extreme pain!!! I wanted a quick cure for the ulcers & any tips that may help. Please answer as quckly as possible, because I cannot withstand the pain!!!:(

A: The usual reason for reoccuring mouth ulcers like yours is anaemia.
A treatment with iron tablets, available from the Chemist, will help heal the ones you have now and prevent new ones.

BUT it’s a good idea to have a blood test done first to see what else you are defeciant in and how low your iron levels are.

For now, use a numbing agent such as babie’s Bongela (teething gel) and rinse with warm, salty water.

Q: What is the best way to prevent mouth ulcers/canker sores?
I get ulcers aka canker sores in my mouth all the time. I get one, it goes away, then the next day another comes up. My doctor gave me apthasol with makes them go away, but do any of you know of a medicine that will prevent them? Or atleast do better than apthasol?

A: You usually cannot prevent them. They are brought on by a virus in your body. Sometimes you can get them when you have been or will be sick, as your immune system is not in full force. Other than that, keep your fingers out of your mouth and rinse with warm salt water 2-3x a day.

Q: How can you cure cold sores and mouth ulcers?
I’ve recently been getting a lot of cold sores around my lips and mouth ulcers, I know it sounds disgusting but I really want to find a way to cure them and prevent them in the future. Please help!

A: Wear lip balm to protect cracked lips from evolving into cold sores. I found that a really good option is to drink lots of homemade lemon juice – squeeze some lemons and add a little water, and drink it – or you can do it with oranges. This has lots of Vitamin C in it which relaxes the ulcers a little.

Q: What is a good way to get rid of mouth ulcers?
I have one ulcer in particular on my cheek, right at the back of my teeth but between the two sets, and I keep biting it with my back teeth. It’s been there for about a month now! Recently I’ve been getting lots of ulcers in my mouth. I’ve tried lots of ointments and stuff like bonjela and Gengigel but they don’t seem to work.

What can I do?

A: http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Mouth_ulcers

That has some good advice, especially the warm salty water. It’s always worked wonders for me.

Q: What is the reason for me having four different mouth ulcers?
Im a 19 year old male and a few days ago, i noticed I had some mouth ulcers and theyre not going, I can’t eat because it hurts, and i’ve tried mothwash and other stuff, but nothings working, Im also getting pains in my tongue, I also smoke, but only once a week and socially. Other than that I take care fo myself, I eat right, dont drink too much etc.

I am just wondering could it be something serious like mouth cancer ?

A: herpes?

Q: what causes mouth ulcers and what is the best way to get rid of them?
what causes mouth ulcers and what is the best way to get rid of them?

A: you might get some helpful information from: http://www.healthmedicalinformation.com/category/general-health/mouth-ulcer

get well soon – all the best

Q: How to get rid of mouth ulcers forever?
Is there a way to heal mouth ulcers. My mother in law has 5 at the moment and no medicine helps. She’s been using heomopathic and chemical medicine for a long time but the ulcers never go. If they go, it’s for a very short time and then they appear again. It’s really bothering her. I think maybe it’s the lack of certain vitamins because I eat a lot spicier food and if ever get an ulcer it goes in one night. I would appreciate any advices! Thank you!

A: I have been suffering from mouth ulcers since 30 years ” thirty years “
Mouth ulcers is due to :
1. Constipation .
2. Worries : constantly thinking about others & their problems
3. This leads to blood pressure of ” not-to- be concerned ” type which is also dangerous
4. Food.
5. acidity .
6. fatigue .
7. side effect of certain medicines which is being taken daily.

There are many but the above 6 are very common.
JUST like some have acne on the cheeks but in this case of acne is inside the cheeks ( that is inside mouth ).

Folic acid deficiency is also a major factor in this.

The all cure for this is MEDITATION : & MEDICINE FOR Folic acid deficiency& ANTI ACIDITY TABLETS ON DAILY BASIS till the condition becomes stable.
later lots & lots of water should be taken daily.

- god bless you

Q: How long does it take for mouth ulcers to go away?
I am sick and have a mouth full of ulcers/soars. I’ve gone the the doctor and they said “soon” – well, it’s painful to swallow and talk and it hurts in general. When will this go away? I am miserable!

A: Hi Kristen

The healing of these ulcers depend on the type and severity of infection ,it could be from bacterial, viruses or fungal infection
In general it may take 10-17 days to heal completely with the use of some corticosteriods and antibiotics but if its apthous there is no need for treatment it will heal spontaneously
(the treatment depends on diagnosis)but when your doctor said it will heal soon, so its an easy case.
you must avoid hot drinks and waters at this time and rinse your mouth with fluride

Q: When you have a gastric ulcer, why do you take antihistamines instead of aspirin?
I know that a gastric ulcer is an inflammation so why wouldn’t you take an anti-inflammatory drug like aspirin? What would happen if you do?

and what will happen if you ignore the ulcer?

A: Aspirin acts differently for your stomach than it does the rest of your body…It would cause more acid that can make your gastric ulcer worse. There are cheap perscription drugs you can take like the generic form of Protonix that will calm your stomach.

If you ignore the ulcer, you will probably get really sick. Vomiting, diarrhea, sometimes it can get so bad you may end up in the hospital. If you can’t get a hold of medicine right away, the best you can do is avoid stress, smoking, bad food, drinking alcohol, and whatever you think caused you to have the ulcer in the first place.

You don’t want to take risks with your stomach; because it is really important to your overall health.

Q: What is the best way to detect a peptic or gastric ulcer?
What is the best way to detect a peptic or gastric ulcer anywhere in the digestive tract?
Is it:
1.CT scan?
2.Barium? (swallow or enema)
3.Endoscopy or colonoscopy?
If some one know please answer with illustration because this is important.
And thank you in advance

A: An endoscopy or gastroscopy is the best way.

A CT scan won’t show up any ulcers.
A barium swallow will only show up any hernia’s or reflux.
A colonoscopy will only show up problems in the bowel.

There are heaps of videos on YouTube that show a gastroscopy and ulcers in the gut.

Q: My Gf Has Gastric Ulcer Is It Contagious?
My gf and i are planning to go out tonight. She told me she as an ulcer maybe. I was wondering are gastric ulcer’s contagious? If I kiss her will I Get sick?

A: Actually this is an interesting question because gastric ulcers, if she has one, can be caused by an organism called helicobacter pylori (h. pylori) She should have her ulcer evaluated and treated.
H.pylori is not very easy to transmit person to person. It is highly unlikely that a couple of kisses would transmit this, even if she does have it. Married couples are often tested and one has this, and another does not.
Thankyou for an interesting question.

   Please read:

http://www.helico.com/

    Best wishes

Q: if you have a gastric ulcer isn’t there a needle that is huge that you put into your abdominal?
ok…so my friend has this gastric ulcer and she says that she has to put this needle that is like 12 feet long into your abdominal…is there a needle tat you put into your abdominal?

A: It is a wrong myth and needle has nothing to do with the disease.
Peptic ulcers are mucosal breaks of >3 mm and are common, occurring in about 10% of adults in Western countries Gastric ulcers account for about one third of peptic ulcers, and duodenal ulcers account for the remainder
Helicobacter pylori infection and the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the 2 main factors in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcers. H pylori infection occurs in 75% of gastric ulcers and 90% of duodenal ulcers.
Other possible factors include the use of steroids or aspirin, smoking, alcohol or coffee consumption, stress, delayed gastric emptying, and duodenogastric bile reflux.

Q: Can anyone explain to me why someone with a gastric ulcer might be prescribed an antihistamine?
I’ve been looking online and can only find specific prescription names of antihistamines but not WHY an antihistamine would be prescribed… an explanation like what does an antihistamine do and what effect it would have on an ulcer would be great.

A: Histamine stimulates the secretion of gastric acid. “Acid blockers” are histamine blockers. If they are insufficient, then a regular antihistamine tablet (like the kind you use for allergies) may be added to get more histamine blockade.

Q: What is the Difference between gastric ulcer and peptic ulcer?
I want to know: What are the symptoms, treatments and causes, also if they are malignant

A: They are the same thing, an ulcer in the stomach as opposed to the duodenum (beginning of small intestine). Details: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/peptic-ulcer/DS00242

Q: What can cause a Bleeding Gastric Ulcer if it is not bacteria or NSAIDS?
My father recently underwent emergency endoscopic cauterization of a penny size ulcer, that had eaten into his artery. He had 3 other ulcers that were not bleeding. He tested negative for the bacteria that causes ulcers and he does not take NSAIDs often. No one can tell us why he might have such aggressive ulcers. He did go to the dentist office the day before for a tooth ache, and mentioned that the shot they had given him felt like it sank down into his stomach. He also takes about 20 health supplements and vitamins a day. Can either of those have caused this?

A: Stress, cancer, too many acidic foods, alcohol, perhaps the various types of supplements/vitamins he is taking. A good health history would be important in determining the cause.

Q: What are to avoid when you got migraine and gastric ulcer?
The things that might trigger it, like types of food and drinks? and others?

A: There is a new development in migraine therapy:

http://www.neurologyreviews.com/feb04/nr_feb04_foramen.html

Q: i read after ten years you got deudonal you will get gastric ulcer. is it a fact?
i got the real experience of getting gastic ulcer in 2009 after suffering deudonal ulcer in 2008. i am 65 years and not under any medication.
nor stressed.

A: No. Unfortunately it sounds as if your gastric ulcer was the precursor to your duodenal ulcer and for some reason either was not very big or was not seen when they caught the gastric. It’s also a possibility that your duodenal was found during a colonoscopy and the gastric during a endoscopy. That could be another reason. Whatever the reason was I’m sorry you had to experience so many similar discomforts 2 years in a row. You must be otherwise very healthy at 65 with no medications and no stress. I applaud how you must be taking care of yourself, I can only think that your problems might be genetic. I’m not sure were you saw the information about these ulcers but I’ve never heard nor worked with anyone that this has ever happened to. I hope this eases your mind and answers your question, but you can always ask your GI doctor. I’m sure they are up on all the newest and oldest facts in this area. Good luck and God Bless

Q: I was diagnosed with gastric ulcer and duodenitis.?
I’ve read online that doctor should prescribe either an H2 receptor antagonist or a proton pump inhibitor combined with two antibiotics. My doctor only prescribed prilosec. Why didn’t he prescribe the two antibiotics? I’m still in a lot of pain and I’m not sure what I can eat and what to avoid.

A: you need to be tested for h. pylori before taking antibiotics. if the test is positive, you should take the antibiotics.
it’s usually prilosec or prevacid with clarithromycin and amoxicillin or clarithromycin plus metronidazole. you’ll heal without the antibiotics but the problem is likely to recur if you don’t treat for h. pylori. ask your doctor for the blood test for h. pylori.

Q: Is there a doctor in the house? Gastric ulcer.and the possibility of it being caused by a bacteria?
called helicobactr pylori. Can this be detected by a biopsy alone or is a blood test needed? if Asprin has not been taken then how else can it be caused?

A: Helicobacter pylori can be found using a breath test, this link will give you more information.

http://www.helico.com/index.html

Q: what drug must i take for gastric ulcer?
i have been using a drug named Nexpro-40, as suggested by my doctor for 4 weeks after stopping the drug i have got a sever pain on my stomach what can i do?

A: I am not prescribing you as a medicine professional, but as a person who has suffered from stomach ulcers. I did end my ulcer treatment, twice. After that the symptoms returned, just like you, so i discovered there are 2 very important things to do. One, is not going back to the old habits that caused the ulcer. Bad eating habits, drinking excessive alcohol or poor management of stress.

The second one, is ask your doctor abut taking Sucralfate to aid your stomach in recovering. Its side effects are mild and it does work like magic by covering the ulcerated area with a film-like substance, which allows your body to heal more efficiently.

Q: Is it harmful to take xanax with a gastric (stomach) ulcer?
I only ask because it seems like Xanax would help a person with stress that could cause a flare-up. I just want to be sure that it won’t get worse because of the Xanax like it may with aspirin and other pills.

A: Nope, should be fine. Still probably should take with some food.

Q: what life style to adopt after gastric ulcer disese?
i am undergoing treatment for gastric ulcer, doctor told me to avoid painkiller, caffene, spicy food etc,now after my erosions are healed can i take those things again, what precaution shoud i take so no recurrence of ulcer takes place

A: If the ulcer was caused by H. pylori you can eat anything you want.

If the ulcer was caused by NSAIDs (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc.) you may need to switch to a different painkiller or take an PPI such as Prilosec or Prevacid to prevent recurrence of ulcers.

Talk to your doctor.

Q: If you have an ulcer can you still have gastric bypass surgery?
I am currently on the waiting list to have a Gastric Bypass Roux en Youx (in the next eight weeks). The surgery is to be performed as open surgery, however my G.P. feels i may have a stomach ulcer (due to my syptoms) i take omeprazole 40mg a day and i am wondering wether it is safe to have the op if i have an ulcer? If any one in the medical proffesion could please help with my query id really appreciate it.

A: Shouldn’t be a problem. We test all of our patients 6 weeks before surgery for H pylori and treat them with antibiotics accordingly to prevent any complications with he surgery. You should ask you surgeon specifically about this treatment and remediation, not your GP.

Dont know if open is your only choice, but laparoscopic is the preferred method for this day and age.

Below is an excellent web site that can give you all the info you could ever use for WLS.

Good luck,

Q: Mouth ulcer?
I have a mouth ulcer for about 3-4 days. At first, I though it just was a cut deep into my mouth, but it hasn’t gone away, and it turns out to be a moth ulcer. I have been putting on anbesol, which is a Novocain, so it numbs it and takes away the pain, but I can’t put it on so many times per day. So I was wondering if there is anything else that I can put on it to take the pain away. And about how long will it stay for?

Thanks

A: it is probably a canker sore….try mixing 1/2 tsp of cherry children’s benadryl and 1/2 tsp of cherry maalox (the cherry flavor makes it taste better:) swish around in your mouth for about a minute and swallow….it kind of numbs it for a little while and helps it go away faster. Warm salt water rinses (1/2 tsp of salt to 8 oz of water) will help the healing process as well, it’s just a little bit of a stinger. Stay away from anything containing alcohol- mouthwash like scope or listerine….this will delay healing.

If it has not started to get better after about a week or so…see your dentist.

Q: Mouth Ulcer?
I’ve got a mouth ulcer, it’s really painful. Is there anything I would have around the house that I can use to soothe the pain? I don’t have any bonjela or anything like that.
Yes, I know bonjela is best, but I don’t have any!!!

A: Apply a tiny dab of oil of cloves to the sore.
The oil will initially give a burning sensation, but will then provide relief for several hours.
Take a B-complex vitamin tablet every day.
Most sores are aggravated by the lack of vitamin
or The best way I have tried is to coat it with a thin layer of antiseptic mouth gel. It comes in a tiny 5 ml tube from the pharmacies.

Q: mouth ulcer?
is it advisable to dine out when you got a big ulcer in your mouth (from a health risk perspective that is)

thanks

A: ehh. I would say it is a health risk if someone who is preparing your food happens to cut themselves and you have blood on blood contact and that person happens to have hepatitis c. HIV dies almost instantly so you’ll be okay on that end but hep c lives for several days to a week. However, the odds are slim so i’d dine away.

Q: Killing a mouth ulcer in its early stages?
I bit my gum while eating dinner last night, and as of this morning I’ve been in the early stages of a mouth ulcer. They’re incredibly painful, and I was wondering the best methods of killing one before it properly develops? I’ve heard theories on the internet about salt, but other ones saying that it exacerbates things.

I’ve tried Bonjela, my ulcers seem to be immune to it annoyingly, so I’m thinking more basic remedies than chemist medication.

Thanks!

A: Nice job trying to eat your own face. Try slowing down at meal times. ;D

Now that you have it, there’s not a whole lot you can do to make it disappear quickly. Mouth sores take a while to heal because unlike a cut or open wound on the outside of our body, they can’t scab over and be protected. So they heal from the inside out.

To help though, take a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water and dab it on the ulcer with a q-tip. then put milk of magnesia on top of that. Do it 3-4x a day. It’ll keep it from becoming infected and milk of mag will soothe the discomfort.

Also avoid hot and/or spice foods. So no curries for a while!

Q: How can I get rid of my mouth ulcer before my A level exams on Monday?
Ok I always get mouth ulcers but this one is just really bad!

It it in the back corner of my mouth, I cannot even open my jaw enough to eat anything without being in complete agony. I cannot talk properly as well. But I am completely starving, I have not been able to eat since yesterday evening and now I cannot sleep because I am to hungry.

How can I get rid of this horrible ulcer?

A: Mouth ulcers can indicate A Deficiency of certain Vitamins; for example; Vitamin B2 Riboflavin; which is found in Milk and Dairy products; so what I would suggest is this:

drink lots of milk; I mean about 1 to 2 quarts a day; and eat alot of yogurt; cottage cheese; cream cheese; cheddar cheese; any dairy

try drinking milk for the next 24 hours and see how better ulcer is ! you could also buy a bottle Vitamin B-Complex; one or two tabs day;
do not eat acidic foods like pineapple; eat bland foods like rice etc.

Q: How do I get rid of a painful mouth ulcer?
I have a very painful mouth ulcer which I have had for more than a week.
I have tried everything from Bonjela to Orabase but nothing works. What else can I do.
Pleeeeease help. I am in agony here.

A: Well, my brother used to get them MUCH. Everyone told him to use salt water but that only worked to a degree. He ended up going to the doctor eventually and they gave him some stuff that worked.

I don’t know if I’m a freak, but I always like getting a mouth ulcer.

Q: What cause the mouth ulcer and how to treat?
my grandson who is 16 often suffer from ulcer in his mouth and on his tongue. He is convinced, there is no efficacious medication for if. I feel sorry for him, as I can see how he struggle to eat.

A: Rinse mouth with salty water each day, hurts a bit but dries it up

Q: Can anybody tell me on how to cure mouth ulcer and why it happens to me at times?
How to prevent it from recurrence? What food do I need to eat for prevetion of mouth ulcer? Please help me as I have mouth ulcer now.

A: I used to have these alot.

Rembrant makes a special toothpaste for people prone to canker sores. I found that it really cut down on reaccurance.

Q: Any suggestions for treatment of a dog with a mouth ulcer?
I just adopted a Scottie a week ago with a HORRIBLE mouth ulcer, in the gum below the bottom teeth. I did not notice it until 1) the foul smell and 2) little spots of bloody dschg on pillows, linens, etc. It is about the size of a quarter. She eats well, is happy and playful. I feel no nodules in the head/neck area. I can’t afford a $3000 vet bill. I bought some holistic immuno booster medication and vitamins at the local pet supply. I don’t want her to be in pain or ill. Suggestions anyone?

A: get a tube of bonjela (you know the one you use with babies) it treats mouth ulcers and a dogs physical make up isnt that different from human so the same treatment works

Q: How can you tell the difference between a mouth ulcer or if it is something else like Herpes????
Had kissed someone like two days ago, but just wondering if coincidence. Mouth is real sore. Any good home remedies if it is a mouth ulcer???

A: if the ulcer is inside the mouth, it isn’t herpes, it’s likely a canker sore, caused by a lack of adequate nutrition. The only other thing it could be would be a syphyllitic chancre. Suggest if you are worried about std, you see a doctor and have it looked at.

Q: Get rid of an inner mouth ulcer?
Someone I know has an ulcer on the inner part of his mouth, my first question is, what caused this? And what are some home remedies for getting rid of t. It won’t go away no matter what and has lasted for little less than, if not, a week. Salt water did not help and he hasn’t eaten or drank anything acidic as to try to get rid of it but nothing seems to help. What should he do?

A: ulcers are caused there are many causes of oral ulcers, among the most common causes lies the fact that citrus fruits can cause ulcers, viruses, bacterium, and abrasions. they are maintained by inflamation, and a secondary infection may make it sustained for a longer period of time.

the best way to heal it is with a thin antiseptic gel that you apply directly to the sore.
you can also dab a bit of bleach onto it using a Q-tip.

Q: Is it normal to have a mouth ulcer for this long?
I’ve had a mouth ulcer for over 3 weeks now and it’s not showing any signs of disappearing. I saw my dentist about it when it first appeared and he told me it was infected but would soon disappear if I cleaned it with salt water. It’s not as painful as it was but still hurts when I brush my teeth/eat. Should I be worried?

A: Try using a qtip and putting some peroxide on it to help kill the germs. There are also many good canker sore meds at the drugstore. To help numb the pain, use a throat numbing spray. If it doesn’t clear up soon, go to the familh doctor. They can probably give you some medication for it.

Q: How can I treat a mouth ulcer?
I need some help getting rid of an ulcer in my mouth? Any ideas?

A: Assuming it’s a common mouth ulcer (aphthous ulcer), then the best remedy is a corticosteroid ointment in a waterproof base. In Australia we have Kenalog in Orabase which contains triamcinalone acetonide. Your pharmacist will know your local product. It is very effective for pain relief and for accelerated healing. My daughter uses it often.
Pull out your lip and dry off the ulcer with a tissue. With your little finger, place a dab of onitment on the ulcer and smear it into place. Don’t rub it in or it will crumble. Do this 2x daily after having brushed your teeth first.

Q: Does a mouth ulcer really hurt this bad?
It’s located on the roof of my mouth in the middle, however the pain shoots all the way down to my right jaw, almost near my neck.
I can’t chew anything, drink OJ, or lemonade without it hurting.
Even very cold water hurts.

I checked it with a mirror and it almost looks like a sore. Ouch

To be honest I don’t even know if it’s an ulcer anymore.

A: Yes, try these:
For Mouth Pain due to Canker Sores, Biting or Burns

• Zilactin-B by Zila Pharmaceuticals
• OraBase by Colgate
• Rincinol P.R.N. by John O. Butler
• Orajel—Mouth Sore Medicine Gel or Discs by Orajel Co.
• Available over the counter at most pharmacies.
• If the lesion does not heal in 10-14 days please call for an appointment to have it checked.

Q: How to treat a mouth ulcer?
Okay i got this mouth ulcer from recently switching toothpastes and i have a really sensitive mouth. I would really like to know if there is anything i can do to treat it. It’s not a kanker soar.

A: Hi, there. I’m so sorry to hear about your mouth ulcer! I know how painful those are. To bring yourself a bit of relief from the pain, drink a very strong clove tea. Make the tea by steeping 1-2 TBLSP of whole cloves in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Sweeten the tea with some honey, as it is a mild antibacterial agent and also helps soothe and heal skin irritations. Cloves have an analgesic effect that will lessen the pain greatly and are also mildly antibacterial and antimicrobial. You should also be taking 50 mg of Zinc, 5000-10,000 IU of Vitamin A, and 500-1000 mg of Vitamin C every day. These supplements will help your body heal itself and will bolster your immune system. Vitamin A is a very important vitamin for tissue healing, especially the tissues in the mouth and other mucous membranes. You may also find that taking 450-1200 mg of Turmeric every day will help heal the sore very quickly.

In terms of topical treatments, I’m sure you’ve already figured out that you need to eat very bland, low-acid foods with few spices. Rinse with warm salt water 3-5 times per day. You can greatly increase the effect of the salt water rinses by adding 3-4 drops of Tea Tree Oil to the solution before rinsing. It won’t taste good, but it will kill the bacteria in the ulcer and the surrounding areas, will soothe the skin around the ulcer, and will stimulate your body to heal itself more rapidly by quickly generating new skin cells.

I hope your mouth heals quickly and that your discomfort is quickly relieved!

Q: Stomach ulcers…?
I am hosting a dinner party and one of the guests was recently diagnosed with stomach ulcers. I don’t want to make a dinner that would be bad for her condition so what are some really great recipes for this situation?

A: Ulcers, Stomach and Intestinal

Eat small, frequent meals and choose soothing, mucilaginous foods such as ground flax seeds in buttermilk, yogurt or porridge. Well-cooked grains, vegetables and fruits are best. Congees of oats, barley or rice are beneficial. Plain unsweetened yogurt containing live culture, mixed with freshly ground flax seed creates a beneficial bacterial environment in the intestine.

Avoid fatty, rich foods, vinegar, citrus fruits and plums, and do not drink coffee or tea, as these produce excess stomach acid. For a bleeding ulcer, fast for one or two days with chamomile tea. Then, start with buttermilk, adding oatmeal porridge with cream on the fourth day. It is better not to drink too much liquid with an ulcer diet. If you have recurring ulcers, eat simple meals for a couple of months such as, oatmeal porridge, unpolished rice and potatoes. Drink mineral water and diluted potato juice. Do not eat bran or whole wheat bread as the bran irritates the already-damaged stomach lining, triggers pain and even causes light bleeding.

Q: Stomach Ulcers?
Does anyone here deal with stomach ulcers? One of my children, when under stress, will have this knawing, pulling, cramping sensation along with burning or soreness. What do you do for relief?

A: When I was fifteen I had to be treated for a bleeding ulcer, and all of my symptoms were similar to your kiddos. My doctor put me into stress releaving classes, and on Zantac 150 mg. I also started eating smaller portions and allowing myself to get REALLY hungry before eating. When you eat your stomach produces acids which agrivate the ulcer, but when there is nothing in your stomach there is very little acid and your stomach can heal itself to some degree.

Everything together helped and my ulcer healed and I have not had any trouble since (I’m 32 now) I still practice methods for reducing stress and find that I deal with thing better than my mother did. So those are options.

Q: stomach ulcers?
My boyfriend has bad stomach ulcers. Basically a hole inside his stomach and he is going throught severe pain. Is there any way to stop this pain whenever it comes?

A: Not really anything over the counter it usually takes meds from the doctor however sometimes acid relief meds will help with pain pills but don’t take it all away but make sure to watch him if he starts passing blood or throwing up blood he needs to get to the er because my brothers started bleeding and he had to have surgery and we almost lost him

Q: stomach ULCERS?
Is it dangerouse to have 3 ulcers lined up next to eachother in the stomach?

A: It is not true that if one ulcer starts bleeding it will set off the other two. However, while ulcers are usually not life-threatening, in rare cases, they can develop life-threatening complications. 10-20% of patients with ulcers can develop complications including significant bleeding, perforation, or gastric outlet obstruction. Fortunately, ulcers are very treatable in this day and age. If you know you have three ulcers lined up next to each other, you must have had an endoscopy. The specialist will typically take some biopsies to see if you have a common infection that makes people more prone to ulcers. This infection can be eradicated with certain combinations of antibiotics and acid-suppressing medications. In addition, it would be wise to avoid medications such as ibuprofen (NSAIDs) which can predispose to ulcers. I recommend you talk to your doctor about this in greater detail…

Q: What causes stomach ulcers and how do you get rid of them naturally?
I think I have an ulcer in my stomach, I looked up the symptoms and they seem to match mine, I really do not like having to have to take anything perscibed by a doctor who isn’t holistic. At the moment I don’t have the money to spend on a doctor of any type. Is there anything I can do here at home that will help heal it? Also, what can cause stomach ulcers?

A: Stomach ulcers can be serious. I highly suggest getting checked out by a doctor. I know money is a big issue for many people right now, but there are many things that can cause symptoms of an ulcer, and untreated ulcers can lead to more serious problems. If your symptoms persist, see someone.

There are many factors that can contribute to ulcers: Smoking, alcohol consumption, irregular diet, and use of NSAIDs (asprin, ibuprofen). There’s thought that H.pylori (a bacteria) plays a role in ulcer development. A stomach ulcer is essentially acid creating sores in your stomach lining.

Things that you can do at home are to stop smoking if you do, and to avoid alcohol. Eating yogurt can also help. However, you really do need to get this checked out, and treated.

Antibiotics are commonly prescribed for H.pyloric stomach ulcers, and acid in the stomach should be reduced by another medication (usually a proton pump inhibitor or H2 blocker),

I’m not very familiar with non-pharmacological options to treat ulcers.

I don’t know what symptoms you’re having, your pain level, etc. You are the judge of when to get checked out, but if anything gets worse, be sure to go in!

Q: What foods should be avoided if you have stomach ulcers?
I have been through many tests to find out if I have stomach ulcers but my doctor still hasn’t found them yet and said that i need to get a scope. In the meantime what foods should I avoid if it is ulcers. I know not to eat anything spicy or with garlic, but what else should I avoid?

A: Spicy foods and certain pain relievers. My friend had stomach ulcers and couldn’t take Tylenol or aleve. she also carried around tums and water bottles because they both help prevent flare ups.

Q: Is it true that you can get stomach ulcers from chewing gum?
I know it can cause ulcers in your mouth, but I mean the stomach ones. I have this terrible stomach pain every night and I chew gum all the time. Someone told me that might be the cause of my stomach pain. Is this possible? Thanks!

A: A peptic ulcer is a hole in the lining of the stomach or the duodenum of the small intestine. There are two types of peptic ulcers

Q: Can a CAT scan detect whether or not you have stomach ulcers? How can someone tell if they have ulcers?
I’ve had stomach pain during times when I get overly excited or stressed out and so I went to the doctor to find out what it is. They did a blood test, X Ray, and CAT scan and told me everything is normal, but Im confused. Why would I be having such a burning stomach ache…? Is there any method to tell whether you have stomach ulcers or not?

A: I had ulcerative colitis, which is ulcers in the intestines. One of the symptoms was blood in the stool. And in case you don’t already know this, what most people say is there “tummy” or “stomach” is actually there duodenum; a part of the large intestine.

I guess this probably isn’t what you’re looking for but hopefully you can take something from it.

Q: What are the symptoms of stomach ulcers?
Can someone please tell me what the symptoms are of stomach ulcers?

A: severe pain in the stomach when you drink hot drinks, alcohol etc. and also fatty foods – chilli’s or spicey food will practically kill you with pain. It is caused by a hole in the protective membrane of your stomach lining. There is naturally a lot of acid in your stomach which breaks down the food you eat. The reason that the acid doesn’t burn your stomach is that you have a thick mucus-like membrane which isolates the acid and stops it damaging the stomach. if there is a hole there then there is no longer that protection

Q: What can I do at home for stomach ulcers?
What can I do at home for stomach ulcers?
I heard of eating garlic or cottage cheese or apple cinder vinager but I don’t like none of those and since I got these ulcers I am a picky eater. I have never been a picky eater. Every time I eat something my stomach gets upset. I had them last year. What can I do to cure my ulcers?

A: Well the best would be to have some medication prescribed by a professional since stomach ulcers can be caused by a bacteria (Helicobacter pylori) and they won’t cure unless you kill the bacteria. But, if you don’t want to do that, then: Imagine the ulcer like a piece of your stomach that doesn’t have any protection against what you eat. So if you eat anything that irritates the stomach it’s going to hurt and make the ulcer worse. Vinegar and garlic sound like a bad idea. You should have food that’s not too spicy, not to sour and not to salty. some people recommend drinking potato juice (blend raw potatoes) it is supposed to give the ulcer some protection against the stomach acid. And since the stomach always produces acid, then you don’t want to keep it empty for long, I’m not saying you have to eat a lot all the time. You should eat SMALL amounts of food, every 2-3 hours.
Still the best advice is to follow your doctor’s advice.

Q: Is it bad to drink vodka with stomach ulcers?
I have chronic gastritus and a three stomach ulcers and I decided tonight I would drink… A friend told me that vodka has natural pain killing abilities and that it actually is an ancient chinese treatment for GI symptoms.

I’m not a big fan of vodka so I mixed it with orange juice.

Is this true?? I’m not really sure.

A: Hi alcohol of any kind is hard on ulcers and so is orange juice due to it’s acidity. I have never heard that vodka is an ancient chinese treatment for GI symptoms. But maybe i haven’t seen recent news. But i would not drink when having an ulcer or take in any foods that are acidic, spicy and hot. Hope this helps.

Q: Why can the backlash of bile salts into the stomach can lead to stomach ulcers?
Why can the backlash of bile salts into the stomach can lead to stomach ulcers?

A: It can lead to the stomach being hypoacidic – meaning that the lining changes both structurally and thus functionally. I have the same problem, and I’ve never been told that it leads to ulcers – but a biopsy has demonstrated that the lining of my stomach has changed. It does (for me) affect the entire digestive tract.

Good luck

Q: Can pop contribute to or cause stomach ulcers?
Can pop cause or aggravate stomach ulcers?

Can pop cause stomach ulcers in children, or teenagers?

How much pop would you have to drink to cause a stomach ulcer?

A: The problem with soda pop is that it has both allot of sodium and carbonation, besides all the sugar. The carbonation will cause any stomach ulcer to exacerbate. This means it will make it worse. Sodium causes problems too. It combines with the sodium in the other foods we eat, along with the amount already in our system. This is another exacerbation. These ingredients alone won’t cause a stomach ulcer, but if your already starting to get one, it will help it along faster, much faster. If you have any problems with your stomach, it’s better to stay away from it altogether. Caffeine is another problem too. Stick with decaffeinated drinks and let the pop alone. Kids can enjoy good old Kool-aid. Remember that? They still sell it and it’s much cheaper then pop is too and has many different and new flavors. Good luck and God Bless

Q: What are reputable brands of Manuka Honey that can be used to treat stomach ulcers?
What are reputable brands of Manuka Honey that can be used to treat stomach ulcers? There are so many brands out there, and I want to make sure I am getting what I order–that is a high quality honey with no pollutants or additives (like anti-biotics and preservatives) and has the UMF and MGO values advertised.

A: I use Comvita manuka honey from New Zealand. It has various guaranteed concentrations, up to UMF 20+ and is GM free.

You can find further info at the link below on some research and testing:

Looks like this crowd will send overseas:

Q: Can I take multivitamins and supplements while having stomach ulcers?
At the moment, I am only taking my birth control and prilosec. I’ve been taking the prilosec for about 21 days now. I read somewhere that too much iron can irritate stomach ulcers. My stomach has been feeling much better but I know I am still unable to eat regular foods at the moment which is causing me a lack in vitamins and energy. Can I start taking multivitamins and supplements again or do I have to wait until I am fully healed for the stomach ulcers?

A: I don’t know what your diet should be considering the ulcers. I would get a list of foods from the gastroentologist who has diagnosed you I would not take supplements without checking also. If you are on a bland diet, see if you can take canned vegetables. I would not take a supplement with iron unless it was for anemia and prescribed. So, I think your best bet is to check with the specialist or your internist. I don’t have ulcers, but I have been on a bland diet for five weeks. I just started adding canned vegetables. I don’t take any vitamins or supplements as they don’t agree with me at all. If your skin looks alright, if your hair and nails are growing as usual, if you have enough energy to function, you are probably not suffering. So when you have a chance, seek professional counsel. I would even ask my pharmacist. Perhaps an RN will weigh in.

Q: stomach ulcer?
if you go to the hospital to see if you might have a stomach ulcer how long would it take them to give you results?do you have to stay overnight?would i need to take any time off from work to recover?

A: Hi SexyGurlie

If that is the issue then here is how to heal it.

Quick Action Plan for Peptic Ulcer

1. Avoid all sugars, refined carbohydrates, sodas, milk and dairy products, processed foods, preservatives, artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame), corn syrup, alcohol, white bread and white flour products, pastries, and hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as all foods to which your are allergic.
2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish.

3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day.

4. Miso soup and strained vegetable broth, made from cooking down a variety of organic vegetables, are healing and easy to digest, making them especially valuable for any digestive problems.

5. To reduce symptoms, eat small meals throughout the day, rather than following the traditional three large meals per day routine.

6. Certain herbs have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help repair the lining of the stomach and intestines. The best herbs for this are Echinacea and goldenseal, aloe vera, cayenne pepper, chamomile, licorice root, and slippery elm.

7. Therapeutic juices include raw cabbage juice by itself, or mixed with either carrot or celery juice; raw potato juice; wheatgrass juice; carrot, spinach juice; carrot juice; carrot, beet cucumber.

8. Soothing baths two to five nights a week can help to relieve symptoms.

9. If you smoke, stop, and also avoid exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke. In addition, learn how to effectively cope with and manage stress.

10. If you are currently taking aspirin or other NSAIDs, consider replacing them with safer, more effective natural remedies.

11. Nutritional supplements include vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C, and zinc, taken with a multivitamin/multimineral formula. Essential fatty acids, especial omega-3 oils, are also recommended, as are bismuth and the amino acid L-glutamine. Linseed oil can also be effective. It can be added to salads or over drizzled lightly steamed vegetables.

Q: Stomach Ulcer?
my doctor says they have to check my stool for blood becuase i might have an ulcer from overdosing on advil. i dont see any blood and there is no vomiting but i am very nauseus and im not very hungary and my stomach HURTS!!! especially after i eat..are there signs of an ulcer?

A: You’ve posted several questions about pain and problems after several overdoses (and I can only assume they’re deliberate)…. I don’t think Yahoo!7 Answers is the place for you…. I think you need to see a psychiatrist.

I’m not sure why your doctor thinks you have a bleeding ulcer. If it were, you would probably have signs of anaemia, be vomitting up small amounts of blood (fresh mixed with old blood – looks like ground coffee), or your poo would be darker. Classically you would have malaena – poo that is black, tarry and disgustingly foul-smelling (it’s because the red cells ‘get digested’ down the gastro tract and the blood products really smell). But it all depends on the amount of blood and rate of blood loss.

Really though, not all ulcers bleed and if it’s causing you heaps of indigestion problems your doctor should be organising an endoscopy or something. And you should also get a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor (like nexium) or a H2-antagonist (like zantac – you can usually get them over the counter, but aren’t as effective as PPI’s).

Avoid smoking, certain foods which exacerbate it (like maybe alcohol, spicy foods). And for goodness sake, stop overdosing on non-steroidals. If you need pain relief for anything, take paracetamol instead – but if you think you’re going to OD on them… just avoid unneccessary drugs all together.
Seriously, get some help… I think youve got bigger issues than this ulcer.

Q: Stomach ulcer?
hello
i really need some help, the past few days ive been getting a werid feeling in my stomach, i cant explain, its like a tight feeling, and some burning feeling, i am really worried right now that i may have a stomach ulcer, and im wondering are they serious?ive read on the internet that they can be cured by some medicines?
please reply

A: Hi. You need to start from the beginning; examine what you’ve been eating, and what’s been eating you! You may be having gastritis, or irritation of the stomach lining, which can happen from something not agreeing with you, too much caffeine, nicotine, alcohol or spicy food, or from stress increasing your stomach acids. Try cutting back on irritants and eating a mild soft diet for a few days; also, make sure you’re sleeping properly and try to cut back on your life stress. Take deep breaths! If you are still having this problem in a week or two, call and get an appointment to be examined; a doctor may prescribe you something to help you relax, or for the stomach acid, if it is needed. Many ulcers can be healed with rest, diet and medication, but some can’t. I hope your problem is something simpler!

Q: What are the symptoms of a stomach ulcer?
What are the symptoms of a stomach ulcer?
What is the difference between the symptoms of a stomach ulcer and not just an upset stomach or indigestion?

A: Hi Jany.

WHAT IS A STOMACH ULCER ?

A stomach ulcer (also called a peptic ulcer) is a small erosion (hole) in the gastrointestinal tract. The most common type,

duodenal, occurs in the first 12 inches of small intestine beyond the stomach. Ulcers that form in the stomach are called gastric

ulcers. An ulcer is not contagious or cancerous. Duodenal ulcers are almost always benign, while stomach ulcers may become

malignant.

Stomach ulcer disease is common, affecting millions of Americans yearly. The size of a stomach ulcer can range between 1/8 of an

inch to 3/4 of an inch.

Stomach Ulcers may be a symptom of another disease or condition. Stomach ulcers are often common in mastocytosis. Bleeding from

stomach ulcers may cause iron deficiency anemia.

WHAT CAUSES STOMACH ULCER ?

The direct cause of peptic ulcers is the destruction of the gastric or intestinal mucosal lining of the stomach by hydrochloric

acid, an acid normally present in the digestive juices of the stomach. Infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori is thought

to play an important role in causing both gastric and duodenal ulcers. Helicobacter pylori may be transmitted from person to person

through contaminated food and water. Antibiotics are the most effective treatment for Helicobacter pylori peptic ulcers.

Injury of the gastric mucosal lining, and weakening of the mucous defenses are also responsible for gastric ulcers. Excess secretion

of hydrochloric acid, genetic predisposition, and psychological stress are important contributing factors in the formation and

worsening of duodenal ulcers.

Another major cause of ulcers is the chronic use of anti-inflammatory medications, such as aspirin. Cigarette smoking is also an

important cause of ulcer formation and ulcer treatment failure.

Personal story about battle with stomach ulcers.

STOMACH ULCER SYMPTOMS

The major symptom of an ulcer is a burning or gnawing feeling in the stomach area that lasts between 30 minutes and 3 hours. This

pain is often interpreted as heartburn, indigestion or hunger. The pain usually occurs in the upper abdomen, but sometimes it may

occur below the breastbone. In some individuals the pain occurs immediately after eating. In other individuals, the pain may not

occur until hours after eating. The pain frequently awakens the person at night. Weeks of pain may be followed by weeks of not

having pain. Pain can be relieved by drinking milk, eating, resting, or taking antacids.

Appetite and weight loss are other symptoms. Persons with duodenal ulcers may experience weight gain because the persons eats more

to ease discomfort. Recurrent vomiting, black stool, blood in the stool and anemia are other symptoms.

WHAT DOES A STOMACH ULCER AFFECT ?

The main thing that a stomach ulcer affects is the nerves surrounding it. The nerves become agitated and cause a great amount of

pain. However, stomach ulcers can cause hemorrhages from the erosion of a major blood vessel; a tear in the wall of the stomach or

intestine, with resultant peritonitis; or obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract because of spasm or swelling in the area of the

ulcer.

STOMACH ULCER STATISTICS

1. About 20 million Americans develop at least one stomach ulcer during their lifetime.
2. Stomach ulcers affect about 4 million Americans every year.
3. More than 40,000 Americans have surgery because of persistent symptoms or problems from ulcers every year.
4. About 6,000 Americans die of stomach ulcer-related complications every year.

RISKS OF DEVELOPING A STOMACH ULCER

• Family history of ulcers
• Smoking
• Excess alcohol consumption
• Use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin) or corticosteroids.
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Improper diet, irregular or skipped meals
• Type O blood (for duodenal ulcers)
• Stress does not cause an ulcer, but may be a contributing factor
• Chronic disorders such as liver disease, emphysema, rheumatoid arthritis may increase vulnerability to ulcers

Take Care. Regards.

Q: What is the best natural cure for a stomach ulcer?
I have a perpetual pain in my stomach and I know it is an ulcer as it is consistant of one. I have been to the doctors and it is priscriptions after priscriptions. How best can I cure this myself?

A: Well, DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice) is very beneficial for helping with ulcers and helping to soothe the esophagus, stomach, and intestinal tract. Obviously, checking with a doctor would be your best bet, but there are a lot of people that get a lot of benefits from that. Good luck!

Q: What are the signs and symptoms of a stomach ulcer?
For a while now, I have been lactose intolerant; but i still eat dairy almost daily, and it usually just causes me to have diarrhea. More recently, every time I eat something(especially a large meal) I get terrible stomach pains. Also, I used to be able to drink quite a bit of alcohol, and have nothing happen.. but now if I even have one or two drinks, my stomach is in such severe pain, I can’t drink. Could this be a stomach ulcer?

A: Sounds like it could be. Having one myself, I can at least tell you that I get the raging fire gut when I eat too much or eat anything remotely acidic. Vomiting is a common symptom too, even after eating non offensive, bland foods. All you can really do is see a doctor because this is not something that will go away by itself.

Q: What can I take to relieve my pain caused by a stomach ulcer?
I feel like certain pain killers might contribute to the problem.

The stomach ulcer was caused by a prescription pain killer called Naproxen. I’ve had the ulcer for a few days, it hurts sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m taking Prilosec OTC for 14 days to treat it, is this a good idea? Any suggestions are appreciated.

A: Several natural medicine possibilities:
Acidophilus (yoghurt or capsules)
Aloe vera juice
arcenicum album
chamomile
gentian root
hydrotherapy
licorice root
nux vomica
propolis
protein enzymes and
quercitin
Quite a lot to choose from, your pharmacist should br able to advise dosage or refer to source material

Q: What are the chances of developing a stomach ulcer after swallowing 24 nurofen tablets on an empty stomach?
What are the chances of developing a stomach ulcer after swallowing 24 nurofen tablets (4800 mg of ibuprofen) on an empty stomach?
Well don’t assume I’m an adult, I’m 14. Yeah, that’s right. I know what you just thought. I’m one of those “self obsessed 14 year olds *insert sigh here*”.

A: You can’t kill yourself with ibuprofen. Go seek a mental evaluation immediately.

Q: Can a really bad head aches and non stop stomach aches be symptoms of an ulcer?
For two days so far I have had bad stomach and head pains. I also have feelings of nausea when I move around, and have slight heat flashes when I go outside. If these are symptoms of a stomach ulcer, can someone tell me. If they are symptoms of anything else like food poisoning, can someone message back?

A: “What are the symptoms of peptic ulcers?
A burning pain in the gut is the most common symptom.

A burning pain in the gut is the most common symptom. The pain

    * feels like a dull ache

    * comes and goes for a few days or weeks

    * starts 2 to 3 hours after a meal

    * comes in the middle of the night when your stomach is empty

    * usually goes away after you eat

Other symptoms are

    * losing weight

    * not feeling like eating

    * having pain while eating

    * feeling sick to your stomach

    * vomiting

Some people with peptic ulcers have mild symptoms. If you have any of these symptoms, you may have a peptic ulcer and should see your doctor.”

Q: What foods should I eat with a stomach ulcer?
I have been trying to figure out what foods to eat with a stomach ulcer. The internet so far has not been giving me good results. Please help me if you know.

A: Hello Christin,
Avoid foods which are hot and spicy. Eat plenty of fruits especially bananas. Take foods which are rich in fibre content. Also avoid milk and foods along with foods rich in Cholesterol.

Q: What are the symptoms of having a stomach ulcer?
I have been feeling sick and lightheaded for a few days now but I’ve assumed that its from lack of sleep and poor diet. I am determined to feel better so I am taking nutritional supplements, exercising and watching my diet and I will also be going to the doctor. Anyone who has had a stomach ulcer, what are the symptoms, are they what I described?

A: A stomach ulcer (also called a peptic ulcer) is a small erosion (hole) in the gastrointestinal tract. The most common type, duodenal, occurs in the first 12 inches of small intestine beyond the stomach. Ulcers that form in the stomach are called gastric ulcers

Q: How can i tell the difference between the pain of a gallstone or a stomach ulcer?
I have either or…and the symptoms sound pretty much the same…im going for a stomach xray wed. but i would like to know how can i myself tell if its an ulcer or gallstones?

A: an xray won’t show either. discuss a CT or ultrasound with your GI doctor. keep a food diary -avoid milk products & fatty foods. take probiotics & increase your fiber intake.

Q: What are the sings of an stomach ulcer ?
ok so the last week i have being feeling dizzy, feeling sick but not being sick, stomach cramps with are really bad thay go and come any time of the day but hurts more when i eat, feels hard and hurts to touch it, i all so just started to get diarrea, so could it be an ulcer? and what are the chance of it being an ulcer?

A: Stomach ulcers present with very bad crampy stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and if they are bleeding then: blood in vomit, blood in stool (dark, tarry stool).

Stomach ulcers usually occur in people already suffering from reflux, which is a disease where acidic stomach contents of the stomach come up the esophagus causing heartburn (chest/abdo pain). They are made worse using certain medications (NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen).

Your symptoms (dizzy, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea) can be caused by a variety of causes (gastritis, reflux, probably not ulcer unless you are middle-aged, bile duct or gallbladder problems, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, undiagnosed celiac disease, infections: gastroenteritis, ?urinary tract infections, pregnancy, stress/anxiety, period pain…etc).

If your symptoms are troubling you, see your GP for proper history, examination, investigation tests and management.

Q: What Are The Dietary Requirement’s for Person Suffering From Stomach Ulcer?
My mother is suffering badly from an ulcer at the moment and she doesn’t know what to eat or drink and doesn’t want to damage her stomach by eating or drinking the wrong thing.

You could save her 50 euros if you told me because I told her I could find out her as opposed to her going to the doctor.

Thanks.

A: She needs to have this diagnosed properly, you can’t ask us to diagnose your mother virtually.

IF she has got a stomach ulcer it is generally caused by a bacteria called H. pylori. This is treatable with a two pronged attack of acid-suppressing drugs and a course of antibiotics- usually a combination of 2 different types. This will clear the bacteria and should prevent the ulcer from occurring again.

Is your mother currently taking any NSAID e.g. Aspirin or Ibuprofen etc? If so she needs to stop taking that, in some cases NSAID can be the cause of an ulcer. If NSAID are a must then ensures she takes the anti-acid suppressants.

Avoid provocative and acidy foods at the moment. Take your mother to see a Doctor.

Q: How long does it take to recover from stomach ulcer surgery?
how many days or weeks should i plan on being out of work. i can not get a straight answer. they are going to remove the ulcer or part of the stomach. thanks

A: 9 days

Q: I have ulcer colitis will i be able to play sports still?
My doctor told me i have severe ulcer colitis and i am already getting treated. However i have no admonial pain and not as much blood as i had before. Can i still play sports? Can i still workout and run without having this screw up my sports life?
Ulcerative Colitis

A: As long as you are feeling ok and the bleeding doesn’t increase with additional activity I don’t see why it would be a problem.

Q: can any tell me how to get rid from ulcer colitis and fistula?
how can a 10 yr old girl have ulcer colitis and fistula how can it be. doctors are telling Rs. one lakh for one injection that also no guarante of completely healing. can anyone help me in big trouble. first i wnt to know how it happened for a 12 year old? 8 yrs have past still it is not getting healed by homoepathic medicines

A: Pontius this appears to be a very serious question but way beyond your ability to ask it in a comprehensible manner.

You are correct in that homoeopathic medication is just worthless in the management of any and all medical conditions, functioning as no more than a placebo.

Ulcerative colitis is a condition managed mainly medically, but sometimes requiring surgical intervention, unfortunately it has no cure.

Q: What aavla juice is citrus and harmful for ulcer colitis?
i am taking

A: amla juice is good in ulcer and colitis

Q: ulcer colitis and loss of vascular pattern?
i am suffer ulcer colitis that time no ulcer in my colon, rectum but loss vascular pattern want make total normal .how type i am suffer ulcer colitis 9th year 4 time remission at time no blood in stool i want no surgery my colitis in distal an total heel up i thought that if i get normal vascular pattern than i make totally normal please say me anybody for my feature im 40 year old

A: Episodes of colitis come and go over many years. Complete and permanent cure with medication alone is unusual. Ulcerative colitis can usually be controlled with proper treatment, but surgery is often necessary for a cure.

The mainstay of the treatment are drugs which suppress immune reaction. Milder cases can be treated by drugs like 5-amino salicylic acid or sulphasalazine, more severe cases by drugs like corticosteroids, either oral, enemas or in severe cases by injections. After an acute attack is treated by these drugs, 5-amino salicylic acid or sulphasalazine should be given for many years. Severe and relapsive cases of the disease may be treated by more powerful immunosuppressants or more effectively by surgery. Since surgery removes the colon against which the immune system reacts, it is the only definitive cure of the disease.

The surgery involves total removal of the large intestine, followed by an operation called a permanent ileostomy. The ileum (the lower part of the small intestine) is brought through a cut in the abdominal wall and formed into an opening. This allows the stool to collect in a bag attached to the skin. In many cases the ileum can eventually be joined with the anal canal thus restoring the normal passage of stools.

Q: my son was diagnosed with an ulcer, colitis, and acid reflux. He has lost 30 lbs. How can I help him eat again?
nausea,no appetite,weight loss

A: give him food that dose not make him have pain (try keeping a journal to keep track of what dose and doesn’t)
if he is old enough you could tell him that if he dose not eat he might have to get an iv and be fed through that (that is what my mom did for me)

Q: I can’t define, which one is right crohn disease or ulcer colitis because symptom r almost the same?
I have been discover to have it after the barium meal where dr is trying 2 diagnose it

A: Crohn’s disease.
is a chronic, episodic, inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract characterized by transmural inflammation (affecting the entire wall of the involved bowel) and skip lesions (areas of inflammation with areas of normal lining in between). Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus; as a result, the symptoms of Crohn’s disease can vary between affected individuals. The main gastrointestinal symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea, which may be bloody, and weight loss. Crohn’s disease can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract such as skin rashes, arthritis, and inflammation of the eye.

Ulcerative Colitis
colitis is a disease where inflammation develops in the large intestine (the colon and rectum). The most common symptom when the disease flares-up is bloody diarrhoea. You can usually prevent symptoms from flaring up by taking medication each day. When a flare-up does occur, treatment can usually ease symptoms. Surgery to remove the large intestine is needed in some cases. Colitis means ‘inflammation of the colon’.
Ulcerative means that ulcers tend to develop. An ulcer is a raw area on the lining of the intestine which may bleed.
The inflammation and ulcers in the large intestine cause the common symptoms of diarrhoea, and passing blood and mucus.

Symptoms are Diarrhoea. This varies from mild to severe. The diarrhoea may be mixed with mucus or pus. An urgency to get to the toilet is common. A feeling of wanting to go to the toilet but with nothing to pass is also common (tenesmus). Water is not absorbed so well in the inflamed colon, which makes the diarrhoea watery.
Blood mixed with diarrhoea is common (‘bloody diarrhoea’).
Crampy pains in the abdomen.
Pain when passing stools.
Proctitis. Symptoms may be different if a flare-up only affects the rectum, and not the colon. You may have fresh bleeding from the rectum, and you may form normal stools rather than have diarrhoea. You may even become constipated, but with a frequent feeling of wanting to go to the toilet.
Feeling generally unwell is typical if the flare-up affects a large amount of the large intestine, or lasts a long time. Fever, tiredness, feeling sick, weight loss, and anaemia may develop.

A doctor can look inside the colon using a special telescope (a short sigmoidoscope or a longer flexible colonoscope. Separate leaflets describe these tests in detail). The appearance of the inside lining of the colon may suggest UC. A small sample (biopsy) of the colon is taken and looked at under the microscope. The typical pattern of the cells seen with the microscope may confirm the diagnosis.

A special X-ray of the large intestine (barium enema) may also be advised. This can help to show how much of the colon is affected.

Q: Would Ulcer Colitis D.Q. me from joining the Navy?
I have this condition, but I still want to join the Navy. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me if having this type of problem would medically disqualify from being able to join?

A: Yup. I was there once man. I know your pain. Here ya go

Small and large intestine.

Current or history of inflammatory bowel disease, including, but not limited to unspecified (558.9), regional enteritis or Crohn’s disease (555), ulcerative colitis (556), or ulcerative proctitis (556), is disqualifying.

Current or history of intestinal malabsorption syndromes, including, but not limited to post-surgical and idiopathic (579), is disqualifying.

Lactase deficiency is disqualifying only if of sufficient severity to require frequent intervention, or to interfere with normal function

Current or history of gastrointestinal functional and motility disorders within the past 2 years, including, but not limited to pseudo-obstruction, megacolon, history of volvulus, or chronic constipation and/or diarrhea (787.91), regardless of cause, persisting or symptomatic in the past 2 years, is disqualifying.

Current or history of irritable bowel syndrome (564.1) of sufficient severity to require frequent intervention or to interfere with normal function is disqualifying.

History of bowel resection is disqualifying.

Current symptomatic diverticular disease of the intestine is disqualifying

Q: what is a ulcer colitis home remedy?
i am suffer from

A: There are some tips and home care suggestion that will help you in condition of ulcerative colitis.
•Using carrot juice, cabbage juice, green juices and herb teas is recommended to promote healing of the bowel lining.
•Emphasize yellow fruits, cantaloupe, pears, watermelon, kelp, agar and cucumbers. Fruits with pectin, such as apples and pears seem especially beneficial.
•Do not eat dairy foods as lactose intolerance may be part of the problem.
•Where diarrhea is severe a liquid diet is suggested for a short time.
•Do not smoke or drink alcohol.
•Stay away from wheat bran and consider using fiber supplements that contain healing herbs and can be mixed with liquids.
•In the presence of ulcerative colitis, do not use aspirin, ibuprofen, naprosyn, voltaren and feldene. These can cause further damage to the intestinal lining.
For further herbal preparations below link will helpful to you.

A: it is an inflammation of the intestine wherein ulcers in the interior which can cause bleeding and increase bowel movements; I have had this for 20 years now; I take sulfasalazine which is the generic drug name ; alsulfadine is the drug name; I usually have a flareup of the disease every year but most of the time, the medicine keeps the flare ups to few; it takes a while to get back to normal when a flare up occurs; men can’t take this drug because it lowers the sperm count; I got mine during my 20’s after quitting smoking; they think that there may be some correlation between nicotine i.e that nicotine may or may not cause the symptoms to manifest after quitting; diet can increase symptoms ; they say that stress doesn’t but I know that I feel worse when stressed so I don’t buy that theory when I can feel it for myself; it is diagnosed by colonoscopy ; the medication that I take is an aspirin derivative which means that it takes longer for me to clot and if surgery , you have to stop meds prior to ; also , folic acid needs to be added as supplement and omega 3 ; medication and disease depletes the supply in the body.

Q: I’m worried about bloody stool – ulcer? Hemorrhoids? Colitis? Help!?
I’ve had a slightly bloody stool a few times over the summer, the first time was following some semi-rough sex, and it lasted for about five days (the blood, not the rough sex, hahaha), and then today it happened after eating an angus snack wrap and doing a really small amount of coke. I haven’t heard of cocaine causing blood in your poop, so I’m not sure if it’s related. I’m afraid to talk to a doctor because I don’t want to bring it up in the first place and I don’t want to have to explain the sex and the blow, but I’m wondering if I have an ulcer or something even more serious.

I can’t say I’ve had any type of major change in living or eating habits and I think I’m fairly healthy. I don’t know if ulcers affect people my age. I’m not on any sort of medication although I do take a hell of a lot of benadryl. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t like burn holes in your stomach lining or anything, though. Although now that I think about it, could taking an average of 5 benadryl per day be giving me an ulcer?

Are there any other signs I should look for that would point to ulcer or some life-threatening illness? Also, is it possible I have hemorrhoids? I haven’t seen any strange markings around my butt area, but I did go to the beach and sit in a fairly damp bathing suit for probably about ten hours the other day, I hear that’s a cause.
Wait, calm down. My life is pretty normal. I’m not a cocaine addict, and I don’t have tons of rough sex. I brought those things up because they’re sort of out of the ordinary for me and I was worried about them. I’m actually pretty healthy, I think.
Besides, I just said I went to the beach. That’s normal!

A: Drink lots of water, and walk…the water and exercise keeps everything moving so you won’t stop up, which causes straining, making hemorrhoids worse, warm tub baths and avoiding sitting on hard surfaces helps too.

Q: Is it Gall Bladder disease? Colitis? Or an Ulcer?
I went to the dr’s yesterday for constant diarrhea, like 3 or 4 times a week.Constant pain in my left side and back and sometimes in the center of my stomach by my breast bone. He seems to think it is one of these 3 things and wants me to have a ultrasound… Which I have scheduled for Sept 8th. I don’t go back to him until Sept 29th for my follow up unless something shows up on the ultrasound. In the meantime he gave me Zantac 300 to take twice a day… I would like to know what I am dealing with here. I am a lot scared and would like some advice … Please help!

A: Hi,
My husband has had Crohn’s/Ulcerative Colitis for 20 years now (they go back and forth on the diagnosis, currently, they’re calling it Colitis). Recently, he has developed severe nausea and vomiting, and had a scope test and colonoscopy to see what was going on. They said he was in a flare-up of colitis but did not think the nausea and vomiting were related (they did rule out ulcers), so they ordered tests specific to the gall bladder. He had an ultra sound and a follow up nuclear test (radioactive dye and scan) and has been diagnosed with a low-functioning gall bladder. He did not have the common gall bladder pain but the doctor knew what to look for. He will be having surgery in the next 2 weeks to have it removed. I would recommend having the ultrasound and any follow up tests (radioactive dye tests possibly) to rule out the gall bladder. If it is the gall bladder, it is such a simple operation these days – orthoscopic, and is out-patient surgery. Your story makes me wonder if after the gall bladder

Q: Muscle Growth Products That Will Colitis and Esophagus Ulcers?
I’ve been working out for about a year now and I’ve certainly gained muscle but I’d like to get faster results in the future. I’ve been into places like Holland & Barrett and seen the products they have available, but I’m worried it would make me feel ill. Any product recommendations that would suit my needs and can be taken by a sixteen year old?
Also last question, may be slightly stupid but hey – Hemp products: Do they contain cannabis?
Thank you.

A: I wouldn’t take any of those types of products. You hear about these new products and then a few years from then, you hear really bad stuff about them like it can cause damage to your kidneys, etc. I would build muscles the healthy and save way. Have you ever researched the guru of physical fitness? HIs name is Jack LaLane and I used to watch him on TV when I was very young.
His story is amazing. He used to be a scrawny little kid with no muscles and he’s one of the strongest and smartest guys I know of.

Q: I have ulcerative colitis. What happened to the ulcers in my intestine and is this normal?
I mean, are they there forever? Do they get surgically removed? I went in for testing a few weeks ago and they were just… gone. All the swelling and puss and ulcers were gone. My doctor is puzzled, and said she’d never seen this happen before.

So, anyone with UC, help me out here. This has been bothering me since the test. =(

A: Ok ive had it since i was nine. They are not forever, they will heal in time. Usually when there is no bleeding, it means that the ulcers are healing. Yeah im not exactly sure why she is puzzled. I take sulfasalazine and it is a miracle drug.

I just had the test and they found some things but they jus cut them off and biopsy them. THey are suposed to be checking to assess the condition. Since it is a chronic illness, it will come and go

Q: Ulcerative Colitis?
I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis since 2002 and have been taking 6 Asacol a day and sometimes tapering dose of steroids (prednisone) when I have flare ups. I have been reading online about the bad effects of long term use of steroids. I know a few people who have taken steroids for long periods of time. I was wondering if there is any one out there who takes steroids (prednisone and such) as part of their ongoing daily treatment. Please share any experience that you might have.

A: Hi! I was diagnosed with crohns disease 2 1/2 years ago. I am currently taking steroids too, and actually just had to go up with the dose the other day as the tapering started to affect me. i hate being on them as I get a humungous appetite, and my face goes soooooo round i look like a balloon!!! On the same note, I dont have so many effects of my crohns when i am on them. We can never win! when i was first diagnosed, i was taking steroids for a year. So far, even after long term use, i havent had any real bad side effects, my bone density is still ok. the only thing i can really complain about is my weight issue now, but im working on that. Sorry if i havent helped much, but sometimes its nice to just hear from people who share similar experiences. Email me if you want to chat about anything else

Q: Ulcerative colitis?
My son has just been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Has anyone any tips on how to keep it under control? Thanks.

A: Hello,

(ANS) You have come to the right person, please see my website on proctitis & ulcerative colitis. If you have any questions after seeing the site please email me.

http://www.proctitispages.co.uk

Kind Regards from Ivan

Q: ulcerative colitis?
What is Ulcerative Colitis, Looking for Cure.

A: Hi Rajesh

You can heal the condition with the following ideas. Learn about juice fasting/ detoxification and be sure to do a colon and liver cleanse to clean out the toxins in the blood for long term health.

Causes
Colitis can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor diet and nutrition, food allergies, imbalanced levels of hydrochloric acid, impaired immunity, infections, lack of exercise, “leaky gut” syndrome, pharmaceutical drugs, and stress.

Pharmaceutical Drugs: The following drugs can all cause and exacerbate various gastrointestinal disorders, including colitis: Accutane, Alka-Seltzer Antacid and Alka-Seltzer Pain Reliever, Anturane, Genuine Bayer Aspirin, Bayer Plus Aspirin, Bayer Regular Strength Enteric Aspirin, Bufferin Analgesic Tablets and Caplets, Ceptaz, Clinoril, Cuprimine, Ecotrin Enteric Coated Aspirin, Feldene, Ilosone, Lamprene, Leukine for IV Infusion, Lopid, Marplan, Meclomen, Novantrone, Paraplatin, Piroxicam, Prokine I.V. Infusion, Retrovir, Rynatuss, Supprelin Injection, Suprax, Ticlid, Tolectin, Toradol IM Injection, Trecator-SC, Trilisate, and Voltaren.

Quick Action Plan for Colitis

1. Avoid all sugars, refined flour products, and carbohydrates, milk and dairy products, processed foods that contain preservatives and artificial sweeteners, alcohol, hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as foods that are common allergens.

2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish.

3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day. At least a gallon a day

4. Try the herbal remedy Robert’s Formula.

5. Soothing baths two to five nights a week, as well as sitz baths, and alternating hot and cold water packs placed over the abdomen.

6. Aloe juice; wheatgrass juice; cabbage, papaya, and carrot juice. Avoid all citrus juices.

7. If you smoke, stop. In addition, learn how to effectively cope with and manage stress. Exercise regularly.

8. Replace aspirin or other NSAIDs with safer, more effective natural remedies.

9. Supplement with a multivitamin/multimineral formula and essential fatty acids, especial omega-3 oils.

10. Examine the possibility of withheld emotions as the cause of your symptoms and get support through emotional and physical expression, especially movement therapies such as Qi gong, Yoga or deeper expressive therapies, such as Total Integration release work.

Best of health to you

Q: What helps the symtoms of ulcerative colitis?
Does anyone know if there is a special diet that helps ulcerative colitis? I was thinking of eliminating meat to see if that would help even though people do that for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis is a little different. Any suggestions would be great!

A: eliminating meat won’t really help much.. the best things to cut out are fried foods, overly processed foods, popcorn, fake sugars, other veggies that will irritate your stomach too. The sugars to completely watch out for are any that end it -itol like sorbitol which is found in many gums. my nutritionist I had said to avoid these because they cause diarrhea which would definitely not help us with UC. I’d also watch dairy intake. I know that I became fairly lactose intolerant with my UC. Organic foods help tremendously as well since they aren’t processed and they are more natural.

Q: When comparing Chron’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which of the following is true?
1.The cause of Chron’s disease is known, whereas the cause of ulcerative colitis isn’t known.
2. Chron’s disease can be found anywhere in the digestive tract, whereas ulcerative colitis is generally found in the colon and rectum.
3. Patients with both conditions benefit equally well from surgery.
4. Ulcerative colitis is remitting, whereas Chron’s disease is constant.

A: I have Crohn’s Disease so I’m going on what I have read about them both;

1. False. It’s not known what kicks off Crohn’s.
2. True. I have Crohn’s in both intestine (large & Small) and in my esophagus.
3. Surgery for both can give you years symptom free but can keep coming back, it is not a cure. Trouble is you can run out of intestine to remove after so long.
4. Crohn’s Disease can go into remission if treated.

I hope this helps you!! )

Q: What supplement cures ulcerative colitis the fastest?
I have ordered things like Digesticure and Aloe Elite and I know there are others. I’m just wondering which supposedly cures ulcerative colitis (or digestive diseases) in the shortest amount of time?
Try digestiqure.com if you’re wondering about a cure for UC/Crohns. thats what I am hoping will heal me after I get my current flare under control.

A: I suggest reading the book patient heal thyself

top one

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=patient+heal+thyself&x=0&y=0

the authors healed himself of chrohn and went to dozens of doctors in many countries and spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to heal himself. His dad was even a naturopath…eventually he healed himself and the book tells how and you can see his before and after pictures here

My other suggestion is to do the full incurables save your life program by Dr Richard Schulz which had success. People with digestive ailments like crohn’s and colitis omit the intestinal cleanse #1 and go straight to the intestinal cleanse #2 when doing the full incurables.

Email me and I will send you the links to the manual and 12 videos that detail so much. they are no longer in print and originally cost $435 dollars. Someone put them up for me to refer sick people too but I do not publicly post the link due to the interviewer of Schulze sending cease and desist letter to people getting them removed as he no longer makes money on it I guess so email me this. There is no easy cure for incurable illnesses..a simple supplement will not generally help most people but a comprehensive, lifestyle change will and then some

more on Schulze here

http://www.curezone.com/schulze/default.asp and the incurables program

http://www.curezone.com/schulze/handbook/TNIP.asp (especially #5)

his website is here

https://web2.herbdoc.com/index.php?&c=1

his products are sold here

https://web2.herbdoc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=38 scroll down to incurables program in the search by products at the left side of the page

You can learn how to make many of his formulas yourself to save money in his 700 page manual and his videos of the save your life program–email me for the links

contrary to what doctors and others say, there are no incurable illnesses..also be sure any herbs you take are in the form of tinctures (or teas is ok as well) and are organic or wildcrafted for best results as capsules are rarely absorbable and conventional herbs are several times less potent.

Q: What foods can i eat with ulcerative colitis?
I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, i dont really want to go on Steroids as just 10 mg had nasty side effects for me! What foods are safe to eat with UC and promote healing?

A: If your ulcerative colitis is from gluten intolerance, then you need to avoid ALL gluten containing food. This is found in wheat, rye, barley, sometimes even oats. This includes food processed with wheat flour…like breaded chicken.

I myself kept having colitis back to back (my gyno told me what it was—the pain, bloating, ect), and I cut out gluten. I found out that I can buy GLUTEN FREE oats….and I STILL have a problem with THAT (it was gluten free granola, and just a tablespoon sprinkled on my yogurt put me in AGONY!!). So, I now know that Oats are a HUGE problem for me besides the fact of gluten. BTW, oats themselves usually do not have gluten to begin with—it is the finishing process (they dust the machines with wheat flour to help the oats cut and pass smoothly through the machines).

Some people have a lactose problem too….luckily, I do not.

If you search the internet, you may find some good (or some not so good) information on ulcerative colitis and or gluten free. Unfortunately, the normal “BRAT diet” (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast does not always work for this, as the TOAST is usually loaded with gluten if it is normal bread….and only makes the problem worse.)

Hope this info helps you out. Feel better, good luck!!

Q: What is the difference between “colitis” and “ulcerative colitis”?
I have been trying to find information on colitis and all that seems to come up is information on ulcerative colitis. What is the difference between these two? Are they the same? Also, if you know of any websites or resources that have to do with colitis please post them! Thanks.

A: Colitis means swelling (inflammation) of the colon viz., large intestine. It is a general term.
CMV gastroenteritis/colitis is inflammation of the stomach or intestine due to infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV).
Pseudomembranous colitis is infection of the large intestine (colon) with an overgrowth of Clostridium difficile bacteria.
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory and ulcerative disease arising in the colonic mucosa, characterized most often by bloody diarrhea. Extraintestinal symptoms, particularly arthritis, may occur. Long-term risk of colon cancer is high. Diagnosis is by colonoscopy. Treatment is with 5-aminosalicylic acid, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, anticytokines, antibiotics, and occasionally surgery.

Q: What is the youngest diagnosed case of Ulcerative Colitis?
Im worried my son has Ulcerative Colitis. I have another open question but no one has answered. My son is 5 1/2 mnths and Im concerned he has U.C. Does anyone know the youngest diagnosed case?

A: I know of a 4 year old with U/C that goes to the same doctor that treats me. It is a desease that has had a lot of research done on it but has few asnswers. A few things that I found out was: it is found in a lot of people that move from an agrarian to urban settings and is also believed to be stress related.( I don’t know what kind of stress a 4 year old could have.) You may want to talk to your doctor about an asacol treatment and if it is appropriate

Q: Has anyone had a successful pregnancy with Ulcerative Colitis?
I am 24, married and January was the first month of us trying to conceive and I am very upset that my period has started today-boo hoo. Has anyone had a successful pregnancy with Ulcerative Colitis? If yes, how long did it take you to get pregnant?

A: In general, women with ulcerative colitis or with Crohn’s disease in remission can become pregnant as easily as other women. Women with active Crohn’s disease may have more difficulty becoming pregnant. I’ve had UC since I was 12 and this was one of the questions I asked a doctor when I got about 18(Im 21 now and not wanting kids anytime soon) but he told me I would have no problem getting pregnant as long as I stayed healthy and in remission.
Go to this website it has a lot of information as well…

http://www.ccfa.org/about/news/pregnancy

Q: What are the options for someone with ulcerative colitis?
My ex boyfriend has ulcerative colitis and is in the hospital. He has severe bleeding and is in lots of pain. I am wondering what his options are and if they will remove his colon, and if so will he need a bag or is there something else they can do. He has had it for 4 years now, but hes bleeding has progressed so bad and they said his entire large intestine is damaged. Has anyone else suffered with this and what did you have done and what was your experience?

A: My boyfriend has this disease and has had it for a few years as well. He currently takes a lot of medicine everyday and for the most part it has done the job. Lately though, it has gotten really irritated and the doctor once told him that if it gets bad enough that they would have to remove the part of colon that is infected. Now, weather or not a bag is needed greatly depends on where the ulcerative colitis is at in the colon. Unluckily for my boyfriend, his is in a part where he would need a bag if it got to be that bad. My boyfriend seems to think his get irritated and worse during the winter months, but who knows. I wish you guys all the best of luck, and I hope everything goes ok. But, just remember, you’re not alone.

Q: I have both ulcerative colitis and Irritable bowel syndrome?
Has anyone else got the two together? I sometimes cant go to the toilet for days. Now Ive just recently started taking medication for the Ulcerative colitis but it seems to only make things worse. The other night I had constant stomach ache but didn’t go to the toilet. Now when I eat I simply feel sick. I have been to the toilet but just a bit each time. What should I do. The doc said I should just caryr on on the meds and everything should get better but this is painful

A: you might need more fiber in your diet. i have irritable bowel syndrome where i will have pain in my groin. i know a good fiber that might help, miralax is a fiber you should use, i also have diverticulitis which is very pain full.

Q: When comparing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which of the following is TRUE?
A. the cause of Crohn’s disease is known, whereas the cause of ulcerative coitis isnt known.
B. Ulcreative colitis is remitting, whereas Crohns disease is constant.
C.Patints with both conditions benefit equally well from surgery.
D. Crohns disease can be found anywhere in the digestive tract whereas ulcraive colitis is generally found in the colon and rectum.

A: D.

Q: What type of food should a Ulcerative Colitis patient eat?
What type of food should a Ulcerative Colitis patient eat?

A: some of the foods that i have notice that can cause a flair up ,
are tomatoes or anythihng that is tomatoe base, spicy foods.
sometimes dairy products. what i have been doing for a while is trying diffrent things and i write down what it was
and i also put down if it cause me to have any kind of reactions to it and then when i go to the Dr. i can let him know what i had an the effect of it.

Q: What food should be avoided for ulcerative colitis?
I have been suffering from ulcerative colitis for the last 2 1/2 years. Can anybody suggest what medicines I should take and what food I should avoid? Because of blood leakage my haemoglobin level goes down. What food would give more iron and hence to absorb the iron what food to take?

A: It varys from person to person, but I am sure you know your trigger foods. Things like spicy or strong flavours, sometimes milk, acidic drinks like orange juice and also fizzy pop. Caffine is also not a great idea. Iron rich foods include anything green and leafy like spinich or liver.

Q: ulcer………?
i have this really nasty ulcer in the perfect spot where its hurting constantly through out the day…any home remdies that could help it besides salt and warm water? i already tried that one…

A: Orabase with benzocaine, or ask the pharmacist what they have in stock. Unfortunately it hurts, but the good news is that it should resolve in around a week.

Q: Ulcer……………………..?
have a supersicisl ulcer in my stomach…what sould i eat and what i shouldn’t??

A: I just asked my dad and I searched this online. You cannot have anything with acid in it. Like lemon juice, tomatoes and tomato products.

“Alcohol, black and red pepper, chilies, chili powder, and hot peppers often irritate the stomach lining. Foods with caffeine can increase the amount of stomach acid. These foods include coffee (regular and decaf), teas, colas, cocoa, chocolate. Avoid or limit these items if they cause you pain.”

“Limit your intake of tomatoes, tomato juice, peppermint, fatty foods, and citrus juices. If they cause heartburn or pain in your esophagus. You may need to limit seasonings such as onions, garlic, cinnamon, and cloves if they upset your stomach.”

Check out the website below. It may help insha’allah!

Q: ULCEr!!!!!?
This is my first time having such a bad and horrible ulcer. This ulcer started out small. Then in the 3rd day, it swell so much that my throat hurts a little. The ulcer is in the small gap in the middle of the teeth and my right cheek. My mummy asked me to rub salt into the ulcer. That is what we usually do and it really works. In this case, it didn’t, although it stopped swelling the next day, it left a hole. I put salt daily and it closed up a little. I just put some salt just now and guess what? It bleed. What should I do???

A: Assuming this is a “canker sore” type ulcer, it simply needs 7-14 days for your body to combat the virus and for the tissue to heal. Salt will not help it though it might over-stimulate the nerves and so relieve the pain somewhat. You could put topical Oragel on it (anesthetic) to relieve the pain prior to eating. If you do that, dry the area first for best results. If it does not go away within three weeks, you should have it evaluated by a dentist.

Q: What is a decubitus ulcer and how are they formed?
What is a decubitus ulcer and how are they formed? What layers of skin are affected and how are the ulcers classified? How do you (as a nurse or caretaker) prevent one from forming, and how would you treat one once it has formed?

A: A decubitus ulcer is essentially a hole caused by tissue death. Generally, we move when an area on our body in uncomfortable. In a person that cannot move or has decreased sensation, then they are not relieving pressure on the skin. When you press down on your skin, you see a lightening of the skin. This is caused by less oxygen enriched blood in that area, the blood was displaced by pressure.
This will cause cell and tissue death. This is very very painful for the person.

When the tissue dies, it leaves behind a hole. The size depends on the pressure point involved. The depth (through different layers of skin) is classified as stages… dermis, epidermis, etc. This mostly depends on time. The longer the pressure was left unreleased, the deeper. However, there are cases that I have seen that within just a couple hours the sore was all the way to the bone.

Decubitus ulcer formation is even quicker when the body is running at a high speed. Times like fever cause an increase in heat production- which then is an increase in energy production- which then leads to a greater demand for oxygen (just like when you are running) Here, each cell is almost “running” and they wear out quickly. Add to that the inability for new blood to reach it… and you know the rest.

Treatment varies GREATLY. Some wounds are packed with saline soaked gauze and then sealed with a clear bandage. These wet dressings tend to do great for larger and deeper areas. This is one of hundreds of treatments. Treatments are based on past evidence, and each individual detail about each wound, as well as the patients history.

Prevention is the single most effective treatment.

Q: What is difference between having an ulcer in your stomach, and an ulcer in your throat?
What are the symptoms of them both? And how do you get an ulcer in the first place?

A: throat ulcer is more complicated cus cells from stomach can migrate to throat cells w is different in nature then grow form mass that is acancer plug if not treated early, throat ulcer always ve known symptom w is continuous heart burn u cant swallow food at all………THROAT ULCER may be due to GERD due to relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter or hiatal hernia , stomach ulcer may be due to helicobater pylori w is treated by triple therpy.

Q: How long does a bleeding ulcer surgery take to recover from?
I have a bleeding ulcer and have been advised to have surgery. I need to know how long I will be layed up?

A: 19 agonising weeks.

Q: How do you treat a chronic foot ulcer that is Sickle Cell related?
The Ulcer is abt 2cms across and has been on the foot joint on the exterior side. Its been a year since it formed. No signs of healing despite use of Bactroban & daily cleaning using water only at home.

A: The patient needs to see a wound care specialist as soon as possible.

Wounds should not persist for a year, even on someone with sickle cell disease.

In fact, someone with sickle cell disease should be treated more aggressively that a non-sickle cell person.

Year long use of Bactroban will cause the Staph on the skin (MRSA or non-MRSA) to become resistant to the antibiotic. In addition, using just water to keep it wet can slow down the growth of new tissue, preventing healing.

The real danger here is not so much Staph bacteria, other organisms can take hold like Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

2 centimeters is a fairly large wound to be around for a year. You may need some debridement of the area, special wound care and some of the newer wound packing materials to stimulate new skin growth.

Good luck!

Q: How can you tell your dogs eye ulcer is getting better?
I’m going to call the vet today, but to give me peace of mind right now while I’m working, how can you tell if your dogs eye ulcer is getting better? I took her to the eye doctor on monday and they gave her two drops and some oral medication. I started it monday at lunch time and have been doing it since. She is more playful than she was when I first got her (on Saturday), she is eating better as well. She doesn’t seem to be holding it shut as much as she was. Just when I go to put drops in it or when the light is really bright in her face. I think it may be looking somewhat better, but I can’t really tell. How long does it take these things to heal and what should I look for if it is getting better. Today is the second full day shes been on the medicine. Thanks!
Her right eye is a different color than her left eye. It looks like it has a bluish tint. I looked at some pics online and it doesn’t look quite as bad as some I’ve seen. It not longer has a mucus discharge since I’ve been using the drops. Her eye has somewhat of a red ring around it.

A: The only way to tell for sure is to stain the eye with a special stain. The ulcer picks up the stain and lets the vet see where the edges of it begin and end, then they rinse it out.

Q: What are the symptoms of a stomach ulcer?
What is the difference between the symptoms of a stomach ulcer and not just an upset stomach or indigestion?

A: Well usually vomiting up blood, blood in your stools. They are black in colour. When you are vomiting up blood. It looks like coffee grounds. Hope this as been of some help

Q: How long does it take for a stomahc ulcer to destroy your stomach?
In other words, how long does it take before a stomach ulcer completely perforates your stomach? Amazing how I can’t find this on google…

A: It totally depends on the circumstances. It could get eroded away quickly by bacteria, it could be eroded quickly by alcohol or NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen, stomach acid, etc. It depends on if its being treated. Too many variables to determine a timeframe in general. Every case would be different.

Q: What is the best way to treat an ulcer on my jack dempsey ciclid?
My jack dempsey ciclid injured himself on a rock and has a big ulcer on his side that is getting larger every day. What is the best way to treat his sore? We’ve had him for five years and would hate to lose him. I checked the water quality today and it is all within normal limits. The tank is 50 gallons and there is only one other fish besides the injured one.

A: If it’s growing in size, not getting any better, and been a few days, I would suggest going with an antibiotic. If you catch it early, usually MelaFix and PimaFix will take care of it-at least that’s worked for me. I have a red devil/midas that got a nasty scrape on his head, I ended up having to use tetracycline to clear it up. So I’d give that a try, or some Maracyn Two-which is really just another version of tetracycline, think it’s minocycline. Keep in mind though, most antibiotics will kill off your beneficial bacteria, and cause the tank to go through a mini cycle. So monitor your ammonia and nitrite levels for awhile after using the meds. Good luck!

Q: How does nervousness and stress cause someone to have a duodenal ulcer?
Dave is under a lot of stress at his job and at home. He begins to feel disconfort and a burning sensation in his abdomen following a meal. After consulting a doctor, he finds that he has developed a duodenal ulcer. He does not understand how being nervous would cause the ulcer and asks us to explan.

A: When the body or mind is under stress it can stimulate the stomach to produce more acid – after a while this eats through the mucous lining and causes an ulcer. I thought that most ulcers were caused by a bacteria – heliobacter pylorus – has he been checked for that?

Q: What are ulcer and why do people get ulcer and are there differnt type of ulcer?
Also is inflammatory boweel disease the same has ulcer ?

A: Hi,
Which Ulcer your talking about there are 7 types of Ulcer!
Ulcer (dermatology), a discontinuity of the skin
Oral ulcer, an open sore inside the mouth
Aphthous ulcer, a specific type of oral ulcer also known as a canker sore
Peptic ulcer, a discontinuity of the gastrointestinal mucosa (stomach ulcer)
Corneal ulcer, an inflammatory or infective condition of the cornea
Venous ulcer, a wound thought to occur due to improper functioning of valves in the veins
Genital ulcer, an ulcer located on the genital area.

Please make it clear

Q: How can you get rid of a stomach ulcer quickly?
I have one that has been making me vomit all the next day after I drink. No matter what I drink or how much. It is miserable. I want to be able to enjoy some drinks every now and then but this stomach ulcer just won’t allow it. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

A: First things first – With all due respects, there is no such thing as bland diet for ulcers. This age old notion of giving a low-fiber diet based on bland foods such as milk, toast, crackers, poached white fish etc. has long been since discredited as no therapeutic benefits from it were reported. Instead, now the emphasis is on letting people with ulcers eat a normal diet and judge for themselves if certain specific foods cause them trouble. These then could be isolated form the diet and rest continued. In fact, very general and continued alteration of the diet will obviously lead to many deficiencies (of essential nutrients) as it is only a well balance diet that provides your body not only with proteins, fats, carbohydrates but also nearly all the essential nutrients (minerals and vitamins) so badly needed by you for the efficient functioning of all the vital organs.

http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/p/pepticulcer.htm

Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to kill the bacteria and proton pump inhibitors or histamine receptor blockers to prevent the stomach from producing too much acid. If H.pylori is detected, then a course of antibiotics together with a drug that protects the stomach lining and prevents too much acid production is called triple therapy.

However, these medications can bring about some harsh side effects such as diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, nausea and interfere with liver function. In men, certain side effects of medication may lead to breast enlargement and impotence. In some cases, surgery may also be required.

Fortunately, herbal and homeopathic remedies can safely and effectively prevent the recurrence of ulcers and other digestive disorders. A well known herb for digestive health is Matricaria recutita, (German Chamomile) which contains anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and calming properties.

Other herbal ingredients such as Filipendula ulmaria and Ulmus fulva are extremely effective in reducing pain and irritation while also protecting the digestive tract and reducing stomach acid secretions. In addition, Sutherlandia frutescens has been used for thousands of years to treat chronic and acute digestive complaints and also acts as a potent tonic.

Q: What is the best treatment for an eye ulcer on a dog?
My dog has had an eye ulcer for 4 months. It healed and now has come back. He has been blind in this eye since it first appeared.I have been giving him drops, serum, and ointment every 2-4 hours. My vet says I should take him to a specialist for surgery to graft the eye. I am wondering if he will regain his vision if he has the surgery or if I should have the eye removed to stop the pain and discomfort if there is no chance he will see out of this eye again. Any suggestions?

A: The best thing to do would be to talk to the specialist that your vet recommends. He or she may be able to tell you how likely (or unlikely) your dog would be to regain his vision.
