Q: is there anyting as strong as nexium but cheaper on the market?
i am a student and have no heath insure. the local clinic gave me some nexium samples for my gred. whille, i was taking it i felt great but when i went back to geat more i learned that it was over 150 dollars for 30 pills. so they pescribed zantac and aciphex and they are just not working. nexium is the only one that takes the nausea away. is there any other meds i can take that are as good as nexium or better than nexium? or does nexium have a generic version that i can take ?
if there is a nexium generic what is it called a where can i get it ?

A: Those drugs are called PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors). There’s quite a few available. Over the counter, you can get Prilosec, Zantac, or Pepsid. By prescription, there’s Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix, and probably a few more that I’m forgetting. If you can get samples from a doctors office or the clinic, of course, that’s the cheapest method. If not, ask the doctor at the clinic about taking Prilosec OTC. He can tell you how much to take to get prescription strength without paying prescription price. And yes, you can always ask about generics.

Q: I can’t afford Protonix anymore from my insurance rx co. What is nearly as good, but cheaper?
I’ve tried Aciphex – did nothing
I’ve tried ranitidne – did nothing
then I had prescription to Protonix! it’s fantastic. One pill a day! but insurance just raised the price from $30/90 days to a whopping $120/90 days. Never informed me just charged my credit card…. Surprise!

I need to find something that works nearly as well, but is way cheaper… any suggestions?
should be now $120/90 days, not “not”
the prescriptions had lately said Pantaprozole, but when I looked it up on the web, it said there is no generic for protonix..?? but that is what is not $120/90 days!

A: Can you get the generic for Protonix any cheaper? The name is Pantoprazole. If not, try Prevacid or Prilosec. I think one of those is over the counter also, but I can’t remember which one.
