Q: Nexium side effects?
I have IBS and GERD, my question is about Nexium side effects. I had been on it for a couple of years ago 40mg. Then my insurance co stopped coverage so I tried others and ended up on Aciphex. About 3 weeks ago I went to my dr, my stomach had been ok, no real issues and I mentioned how I’d like to appeal the ins co to get Nexium again, waiting out the process my dr gave me samples of Nexium 40mg. 5 days later I started to bloat up, the worst IBS I ever had. Then 3 days later got my period and thought it was that, but it has continued for about 3 weeks. I went online and looked up the side effects of Nexium and was surprised to see severe bloating, cramping, adomnial paid and other side effects do occur. I called my pharmacist and they said even though I’d taken it in the past the switch from one drug to another may have caused this effect, no acid in my colon to help me digest the food. She suggested I go off it until I see my dr this Friday. Has anyone had side effects with Nexium?
A: i’ve been on nexium for awhile now, 2 or 3 yrs. during some of that time i had to switch doctors and didn’t have any medication, which sucked, but once getting back on the medication i didn’t have any issues. that’s odd that you experienced those side effects. but hey props on talking to the pharmicist about, most people just don’t even bother.

Q: What could cause severe nausea, burning, and then sharp pain in my stomach and left side?
I’m a 25-year-old female, and a few weeks ago, I started having severe nausea (accompanied by chills) about an hour or so after eating, and if I could stand not taking antacids, my stomach would burn. It didn’t feel like heartburn, as it just stayed below my rib cage. It didn’t matter what I ate…it happened all the time. I went to my gastro doc, and he said it was likely my gallbladder, and he put me on aciphex to curb the symptoms. I had an upper abdominal ultrasound, and everything looked fine, much to my surprise. Since then, I have been calling his office about a game plan going forward, and they have said they’re waiting on labs from my internist…for ALMOST 2 WEEKS!
Well, now I have this random sharp pain right below my rib cage in the center, and when I push on it, I feel a sharp pain below my ribs on the back left side. It doesn’t last a long time, but long enough! I had dull flank pain on the left side a few days ago, and was worried about a UTI, but my urine has been fine.
As a background, last year, I had frequent diarrhea for about 8 months, and those symptoms don’t come into play when I have my newest illness. They never were able to diagnose my earlier symptoms from last year. After all this, I’ve dropped 25 lbs. in the past 14 months, bringing my to an almost unhealthy 110.
Can anyone provide insight? I know better than to seek medical advice online alone, but I just don’t want to panic before the doctor calls me back. Plus, I’m SO tired of all this!!! Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!!
A: If not gallbladder, sounds like pancreatitis. Any alcohol consumption in your life before this started? Inflamed liver perhaps.
You might try going on a very strict diet of mostly veggies for a bit to discover if you can straighten out what sounds like a toxic issue. And no processed food. Need to cook stuff from scratch. H20 only for a bit.
And if you are really painfully motivated, give meat the boot in exchange for protein powder.
No alcohol of course. I’d say a week or two ought to get you going again.
